Just saw United 93-- I thought it was excellent. It evolves in real-time and its cuts back and forth between the Air Traffic controllers, the Military room, and the plane.
It was somewhat shocking to watch the level of confusion in terms of what was going on, but when you see what information that they were dealing with, it makes sense.
The hijackers to me came across more as fanatical than evil, and they were not turban-wearing obvious characters, they were cleaned up and I ride on planes with people like them on every flight I take.
In the movie, they are carrying out the plans of others and are obsessive in their task. We are not fighting an enemy that is likely to be reasoned with.
There is one character that I'm glad they included- he has a European *maybe French* accent and he makes a number of comments along the lines of "If we do what they say, they'll spare our lives"-- typical appeasement mentality.
Thanks to this group of heroes, many thousands of lives may have been spared and we kept the Islamic nuts from claiming the Capitol or White House as a prize.
I give in 9.5/10!
That may be the genius of the movie.
They don't invent anything. It's just the story of what happened.
Who are they going to sue?
This movie is a dramatization of what actually happened that day.
Brilliant!
Keep a very close eye on them and lock them up if there is evidence that they are planning to harm others.
I liked the TV movie better. But then as an American, I have strong feelings about these events, which the filmmakers didn't.
There's the first problem, who decides if 'they' pose a threat?
What did you like better about the TV movie?
Never forget that 911 was enabled by Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton , and the entire Democrat Party. IMHO, these vermin are murderers of American innocents!!!
Going to see it in about 10 minutes. I will post later.
Left the theater a couple of hours ago..
--- '93' is a powerful semi-documentary style movie filmed in a 'real time' manner once the flight is taken over by the hijackers.
The surprising 'moral message' I got from the film is one regarding self defense.
--- Over and over we see the passengers hesitate to attack the two hijackers who are defending the aisle leading to flight deck with knives & a bomb. [the other two are in the cockpit]
According to cell phone conversations, the passengers knew early on that the pilot/copilot had been killed, and that other planes were flown into the trade center, in effect telling them that they were dead unless they took action to take back the aircraft.
-- Which leads the viewer to speculate why the passengers take so long to try to overpower the 2 or at most three men whose only real weapons were small knives. - [The bomb makes no logical difference in outcome.]
The movie makes clear that they hesitated because they had no weapons.
-- And, - because they were accustomed to hearing the bureaucratic chant of 'take no action' -- 'offer no resistance' - to those who intend to kill you.
Finally, when they do 'roll', a muffled cheer went up in the theater, one that we can hope will be heard all over America.
There are quite a few potential threats presently awaiting trial in Australia. ASIO, our intelligence gathering organisation, kept them under surveillance and intercepted phone calls etc.
Good for you. It's amazing to see life goes on. It does but for me, I live in some of my past memories..good and bad. I sometimes, cannot deal with the pain and sorrow I feel from 9/11...never forget!
We are pretty lucky here in that there are only 20 million of us and we are surrounded by water - shark infested and crocodile infested waters at that. It must be much easier to pick up potential trouble makers here than in mainland USA, for example, which has 300 million people in approximately the same area. It would be interesting to know how many potential terrorist attacks have been detected and prevented since 9/11. What we have to keep in mind is that violent political movements can attract people from any race. This can make trouble very difficult to detect as was evident in the London bombings.
None of us will ever in our lifetimes get a Congress and our President to agree with us on every thing. Whoever is in there will do what they do based on their perception of what the voters want. The root problem is not just the lack of competent politicians but rather the voters themselves. We have to educate the sheep and offset the propaganda they're being fed. It will be a grueling marathon til the day we die. The sooner some on our side realize that the better off we will be.
I can't wait to see this. I live in a small mountain town so I don't know when it will get here darn it. Thanks for the review. (But they were evil, btw, as I know you know!)
My husband and I intend to see this movie. To us, the American folks on Flight 93 were very, very brave people and I hope that we, in a similar circumstance, will act like they did. Please watch us from above, heroes, and give us your brave action. God Bless America.
True. nd what we have to keep in mind is that only people who want to harm others will be attracted to a violent ideology.
