Uh, another realist. Ollie is going to find that there was no conspiracy in any case.

How hard would it have been for Truman to reveal that FDR was compromised by the communists, and his physical frailty after leading US to victory? He could have then used the nuclear threat to back the Soviets out of Europe quite easily, using a bomb or two if they stood up. War is a matter of will only since we unleashed the atom. After other caught up things changed radically, but the US was in a position to dominate forever the world, and we turned it down.

Well, it was a traffic accident. Patton never said the other driver came up to him and broke his neck while his assistants stood by and watched.
I think what ultimately killed the general was pnuemonia.

Uh, another realist. Ollie is going to find that there was no conspiracy in any case. Most likely, but it is interesting that the rumors or conspiracy theories or speculations implicate the OSS, forerunner of today's CIA. A CIA which seems, and historically has been, full of communist sympathizers and other anti-American intellectual types from (originally) the Ivy League.

From my reading on this topic I think Patton wanted America to go to war against the Soviet Union. And powerful forces in the united states wanted to avoid fighting a war with the Soviet Union for a variety of reasons.
But they also knew Patton would become President if he wanted, and very likely lead the nation into war against the USSR. At minimum they wished Patton would just go away. It may have been a random act, and maybe not.

"Roswell was a non-issue when it happened. 30 years later it was a conspiracy theory accepted as fact. now you can spot the believers by the reflections in the sun from their headgear." If you drop in at DU, you will find that probably 2/3's of the membership are either Rosewell "True Believers" or "Trekies". You can really see the affects of drinking bong juice regularly.

"What do you think the national reaction have been if, say, on June 1, 1945, Harry Truman had gotten on the radio and said, "We're now declaring war on Russia and we're going all the way to Moscow?"
No more than America's reaction in 2003 against the invasion of Iraq. And of course it wouldn't have been like the above. You exploit various reasons to enter war. The case for an attack on Russia in 1945 may have been more easily made than for Iraq in 2003. The obvious is the lack of resolve in '45 and what we have been blessed with in a POTUS in '03. Russia did kill tens of millions and enslaved through an ideology hundreds of millions. Some of that still continues. Iraq's past and future intentions were clear. Our President made the tough choice for the "world community" knowing what the future may have held.

I've seen the old news clippings implicating the OSS. IIRC it was leaker. I just ran across the article cleaning up some clipping from my father - WW2 vet.

The ancient battlefield in the movie was Carthage. I have seen the movie many times (a dozen?). I see something that I had previously missed each time.

And praytell why would the Lord be on the Commies side - why would the Lord take back Patton so that the Russians could get the bomb and kill us in three more wars? And then kill another 50 million in the last half of the century. Patton had fought his war. As far as the rest is concerned ... what are you smoking? Patton was not in a position to initiate action against the Russians ... by late 1945 this nation, and the allies were weary of war.

I knew that. Since folks are erupting with tinfoil hat ideas and since Patton was injured in a car crash, it was only conjecture that Patton's driver could have been an Arabic taxi driver.
IMO Patton's accident was a terrible accident and his driver was not responsible. Ever ride with a taxi driver that had Arabic as his main language?
I meant no disrespect to your relative that served in the military honorably.

His Jeep driver in that sequence also appears in the "making of" extras disk for the movie "Cleopatra". :')

Patton is immortal--in that amazing speech:
"Americans love to fight....Americans hate cowards...the very idea of losing is hateful to an American".
"Every man has a vital job to do and he must do it"
"We want this war over with. The quickest way to get it over with is to go get the bastards who started it."
and my favorite, in the movie but I am not sure if it was truly in "the speech":
"The purpose of war is not to die for your country, it is to get the other bastard to die for his country."
I wish Patton were alive today just to hear him rant about our coddled traitors in the intelligence community.
