MOSCOW, April 22 (RIA Novosti) - Russian military planes flew undetected through the U.S. zone of the Arctic Ocean to Canada during recent military exercises, a senior Air Force commander said Saturday.
The commander of the country's long-range strategic bombers, Lieutenant General Igor Khvorov, said the U.S. Air Force is now investigating why its military was unable to detect the Russian bombers.
"They were unable to detect the planes either with radars or visually," he said.
Khorov said that during the military exercises in April, Tu-160 Blackjack bombers and Tu-95 Bears had successfully carried out four missile launches. Bombing exercises were held using Tu-22 Blinders.
By the end of the year, two more Tu-160s will be commissioned for the long-range strategic bomber fleet, Khorov said.
Both new planes will incorporate numerous upgrades from the initial Soviet models, the commander said. The bombers will be able to launch both cruise missiles and aviation bombs, and communicate via satellite.
I will tell you one last time because I know you like to use word games like most of the russian leadership. Russia is helping Iran with nuclear material and technical know how. Whether it is fissile material to make a nuclear weapon or just enough to make a radioactive dirty bomb is moot. Iran sits on top of a sea of oil so they dont need nuclear power for a few centuries at least.What does matter is if some radioactive device is used against the US or our intrest then all the parties involved will be held to account. This includes the Russians.China and Russia are allowing this to happen by blocking any action in the UN security council. They both know it destabilizes the oil rich region and buffers US/EU and the wests power. Once a radioactive attack or the nukes start flying the US will take the kid gloves off and do what we been waiting for since the beginning of the cold war. We had a balance with nukes after the cold war now this little game they are playing may eventually start ww3 after years of trying to deter it. You may be happy to stick it to the US now but the outcome of this could be bad for all humans.
Russian design is crude.A russian may have developed a lower RCS formula years ago, thats great. We have had stealth tech since the 80's. Russia still doesnt have a stealth aircraft and needs the Indians help for funding. Pathetic.

It is even in Russia own interest because Russia wants to make money many years ahead by selling Iran fresh nuclier fuel. So fuel technology which is indeed is the technology of enrichment is out of Iran reach.
Russia will NOT give it not only to Iran but to United States either. You should know that Russia alone has technology for reprocessing burnt fuel. United States, France and Britain all just stockpiled burnt fuel and make fresh form from new uranium matherial. But Russia do not this. Russia extract plutonium and make fresh fuel out of burnt.

This question was interesting me too. And I find the answer. I red the interview of iranian minister of oil. He said that they consider it as the squandering of oil if they burn oil for electricity. It is more profitable to sell in to West but produce electricity from nuclier.
I agree with him because here in Russia we have lot of oil but anyways we develop further nuclier power plants. Same way it is very stupid to burn oil for electricity when you may produce it in ample quantity much much cheaper and which is important without polutions of atmosphere.

Radioactive attack by missile is not possible on US land. Iran simply do not have such missiles now. Later there will be ABM so it will be impossible either.
Anyway if Iran will do such thing I beleive no one objects if US "takes the kid gloves off" on Iran.

We still have the balance today and will have at many years to come. So the deterence will continue to be there. Russia won't allow no military advantages over her from anyone. Remember Russia today is more stronger then USSR was. Her people is united as nobefore.
She always will have some nasty things in her sleeves which will bring "unacceptable losses" to any possible aggressor. It is her policy for all times. In other words any attack on Russia will be suicidal for agressor country.

And I don't agree that US behaives as world policeman. No one appointed her on this role. It is self appontement. So all proceeds of it which US gets is her problems now.

May be pathetic for you. But I won't open the sceret for you if tell you taht Ufimtsev designed firstly was accessed by soviet military designer. And turned down beacuse they knew taht Ufimtsev design may be stealth only in very narrow band of electomagnetic emmitions.
For example. Old soviet radars which works on meter wave length see "stealth" aircraft with same easy as ordinary aircraft. Russian anti-aircraft system use such radar for early warnings. For fine targeting they use bgger freauwancie. But at that stage when you alredy know wher those stealth are, the narrow beam pointed to tagret directly will make reflection no matter stealthy or unstealthy.
So no american "stealth" aircraft will be stealthy over Russia:). Recall U-2 and colonel Powers. They told then that that soveit missile cann't shoot him down. But it happened. Don't make same mistake twice:).

Isn't our SAC disbanded? When the US stopped flying strategic bombers is it possible that we believed the enemy would also? Do we also believe that in an age of ICBMs and cruise missiles that no one would bother with intercontinental strategic bombing missions?
Or, is this the beginning of developing a bombing strategy to deal with Iran? Does the AF argue that we need more AWACs in the air and command and control ships to direct the campaign and the only way to not signal our intentions is to have a plausible reason to put them up, because if they are up KC 135s will have to be up as well as we couldn't launch a mission without them. I don't think this time we would want to signal our intentions in advance.

There's more to stealth technology than just the material. The shape of the plane matters a lot too. Note how angular and awkward the stealth planes like the F-117 and to a lesser degree, the F-22 are. Their surfaces are designed to not be round to guarantee that the radar signals are deflected away from the source.
Besides, retrofitting a Bear with stealth material would make it so heavy that it probably wouldn't even have the range to do this, at least not with any worthwhile payload.
For stealth technology to work effectively, the plane has to be built from the ground up as a stealth plane.

Since when did the US stop flying strategic bombers? The US still flys B-52s and B-2s as part of the strategic force. They still practice long range global reach missions to this day.
