NEW YORK — More Americans disapprove than approve of how George W. Bush, Donald Rumsfeld and Congress are doing their jobs, while a majority approves of Condoleezza Rice. President Bush’s approval hits a record low of 33 percent this week, clearly damaged by sinking support among Republicans.
Opinions are sharply divided on whether Rumsfeld should resign as secretary of defense. In addition, views on the economy are glum; most Americans rate the current economy negatively, and twice as many say it feels like the economy is getting worse rather than better. These are just some of the findings of the latest FOX News national poll.
President Bush’s job approval rating slipped this week and stands at a new low of 33 percent approve, down from 36 percent two weeks ago and 39 percent in mid-March. A year ago this time, 47 percent approved and two years ago 50 percent approved (April 2004).

Just whose side are you on Dane? Conservatives like myself who have actually served their country in a foreign country have seen how much better America is than any other country in the world. We fought to keep it that way and we'll be damned if the country we fought for is just given away without a fight. Last year we, the American tax payer, gave Mexico 57.8 million dollars to help secure the border on their side and what we got in return was more of their citizens. This is a fight that we will not give up or compromise on. I wonder if you'd stand with your fellow Americans if it were President Kerry selling out his country instead of Bush.
The issue was immigration, not security. We have two borders that need to be defended....Canada and Mexico. How to YOU think they should be defended?
Naturally, I couldn't agree with you more, although I'm sure Mr. Bush's apologists would be quick to point out that this was the "best deal" the President could have gotten out of the Democrat/RINO coalition in Congress. The President needs to say lots of "green" stuff that a majority of the electorate (who reflexively call themselves "environmentalists", without thinking about what that really means) will dearly love. Then he needs to explain why we've got to increase domestic production (e.g. "as a 'stop-gap' until alternative fuels come on line"). Then he needs to start beating up on anyone, Democrat, RINO, his baby brother, etc. who stands in the way of increased domestic production. You may have noticed that the Democrats, who surely know what's driving the President's approval ratings down (although they'll ascribe it to other things) are not exactly beating up the President over this. They're smart enough to know that when your opponent is busy making a fool of himself you should stand aside, and let him have at it.

That is exactly correct, prices are going up all the time, but if I rise mine I will lose my customers. They are getting hammered just like I am, this economy sucks, rich getting richer poor/middle getting screwed. Property taxes thru the roof, energy costs thru the roof, cost of food thru the roof, who ever says there is low inflation is a liar.

Actually president Kerry would be proposing more money for bi-lingual education and kowtowing to the teacher unions to "teach" public school children they are perpetual victims and "victims" of the evil white man.

Your first statement made some sense.
The second one isn't worth dignifying with a response.
But people who earn $50,000 per year and have a family to support, can't afford to pay much more than we are now paying for energy. And their loss will be the economy's loss in the long run. They will stop spending money on anything except fuel, and necessities.
I'm well off, but unlike some other people, I know what its like to just get by.
There is no need to bash Bush on illegal invaders or the energy issue. He's doing quite an adequate job all by himself - as these numbers indicate.
And any cosmetic reworking of his staff will not rectify the situation unless there are some attitude adjustments in the administration's thought processes. And if not, ALL Republicans will be paying as hefty a price as he will in the long run.

That is step 2.
Once there is a mechanism for identifying immigrants and allowing the "right" ones in, we can build a fence as high as we like.
That said, I agree there should be border enforcement now. There is no reason why step 1 and step 2 can't be done at the same time.

In any event, I don't know to what else I can attribute GWB's blindless to issues we think are essential, like the borders, like Myers, like the ports deal.... It's one thing to disagree with the base; it's another thing to be completely obligue and unresponsive to the reasons for the anger building among conservatives. He's just as far removed from reality as his father whom I also, regrettably, voted for twice.
