Not to diminish the importance of this event, but I can't help but hone in on that word "massive." The media sure loves those kind of words.

I just logged onto my homepage (which is Refdesk) and noticed the term "HUGE" in the title of the headline. I thought the same thing...what does "huge" mean?

And I'm prepared for the usual FR comeback, it's "hugh" and "series", LOL.

It's almost certainly a, um... "massive" exaggeration.

Well, I can excuse the overuse of the words "huge" and "massive". If you've ever been around a significant explosion, it seems huge and massive regardless of how it compares to others.

That is our fault. We should be giving them a relevant point of comparison. A 60 megaton nuke over Iran would be massive, a fuel air blast or a 20,000 lb bomb would be major tactical strike, and anything less would be an attrition device.

For me (Combat Engineer) massive would be something like a cement mixer full of AMPHO/TNT/C4 or some such detonating in my general vicintity.

Yeah, our scumbag liberal local college toilet paper, the Bucks County Courier Times, loves to use words like that in their headlines, especially if US Marines have been killed. I saw the other day that "Fighting Rages in Ramadi, Baghdad". "Rages". Good word. Yeah

Yeah....they can't say "stroke" or "heart attack" without saying "massive" first.

Hyperbole like," massive" and ,"rocked the capital" are employed to spin the event as a major catastrope. I wonder what reading the Richter scale will give when the MSM finally comes crashing down?

May the MSM die with a mere whimper! Dweebs!
