Good News on FairTax
Town Hall . Com ^ | 4/13/06 | Herman Cain

Posted on 04/14/2006 2:42:07 PM PDT by Eaglewatcher

of good news is that support is growing for complete replacement of the tax code with a national consumption tax. More and more taxpayers are demanding action from their representatives in Congress, and their representatives are listening.

Just one year ago, there were 33 sponsors and co-sponsors of HR 25, The FairTax Act, in the U.S. House. Now there are 53 supporters, and new co-sponsors are joining every month. In the Senate, Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) was the lone sponsor of the FairTax Act, S 25, one year ago. Senators Tom Coburn (R-OK) and John Cornyn (R-TX) now join Senator Chambliss as co-sponsors. The word is spreading about the overwhelming benefits to our economy and our wallets when we replace the nine-million-word tax code mess with the fair and simple FairTax.

You need to get your facts straight. There are 53 Representatives and two Senators Co-sponsors of H.R. 25 (The FairTax Act of 2005) updated 04/06/06
The 53 Cain was talking about is in the House. The AFT lists Robert Ney as a co-sponsor but THOMAS doesn't (they list 52). Who do you think we should trust?

You can save money in your left pocket by only spending from your right. Brilliant! What is needed is a brutal reduction in the amount sent to Washington. Anything less is just a silly game.

Exactly right!

The Fair Tax will reduce the size of government because the IRS will be eliminated.

Let's see, that's all of 0.001% of Federal expenditures.

Wow, let's risk the entire US economy going into the tank for that little piece of tripe!

And look at where we are today. Today there are large numbers of people that pay NOTHING in taxes -- but still vote.

NO REPRESENTATION WITHOUT TAXATION

Should be the modern refrain to rally behind !

If you aren't paying your way, you shouldn't have a say in government.

Among the many things I like about the flat tax.. one is that Chinese goods would be taxed the same as American goods.

Honestly if I was the dictator of a nation I would phase in a sales tax, while phasing out the income tax. Slowly adding one percentage to the sales tax, in the same bill that took away a few percent in income tax.

I agree.. it was rational in the past when only property owners could vote. When taxes were mainly from property taxes.

Also this probably sounds radical but I believe government employees and their spouses should not get the vote. They are supposed to be servants of the public.. not masters.

I think he means divide the cost of government EQUALLY across the population.

What is called a 'head tax' or a 'poll tax'.

Even if the Federal government was only spending the $600B or so that is Constitutional, that would still amount to $2,000 for every man, woman, and child.

No way would you ever sell that to the liberal socialists commonly known as "Democrats" in this country.

I happen to agree with him that it is the only honest way to pay for government, but we have strayed so far from the concept of "equal cost for equal citizenship" that I don't see us returning to it within my lifetime.

You need to "lissen up" and actually read the FairTax bill and/or spend some time on the FairTax website.

Otherwise you merely sound foolish and uninformed.

What is needed is for you to read the bill instead of pontificating.

Nightie, the bottom-feeder who likes to call others that, isn't too rigorous about the truth you know.

His "work" frequently shows that very clearly.

Wow, let's risk the entire US economy going into the tank for that little piece of tripe!

The economy is at risk because the oppressive IRS exists. The IRS takes money from income earners before they get their paycheck not to mention embedded VAT's and the cost of compliance with the 60,000+ page tax code. Compliance costs the taxpayer $265 billion per year. That's money taxpayers could spend or invest if the IRS was abolished.

Let's see, that's all of 0.001% of Federal expenditures.

You contradict yourself. If the IRS is only .0001% of federal expenditures as you claim then eliminating it will have little impact on the economy.

Contact your Rep or Senator if they haven't already signed on. Congress is on break( seems as though they always are) so they are back home for a short time.

Tell me, Mr. Dog, what effect on the NRST bill would it have if the prebate provision were removed?

I knew that someone would begin the cry of no taxation without representation...and the libs will pick up on that soon enough.

NO REPRESENTATION WITHOUT TAXATION -- we can't say it loud enough.

More like, if you can't win with the facts, post a lot of letters to the editor and "agendatorials" to make it look like your plan has lots of support. (And while your at it, why don't you write your own headlines so it looks like the article is really all about the FairTax when it isn't.)

Removing any part of the Fair Tax Act or any bill would defeat the purpose of a bill and in effect create a new bill.
