Journalists are aghast that after years of feuding, 2008 GOP presidential frontrunner John McCain has launched a bid to make peace with Rev. Jerry Falwell - and has even agreed to be commencement speaker next month at Falwell's Liberty University.
The New York Times Paul Krugman is particularly irked by this turn of events, chronicling some of Falwell's "offensive remarks" in his Monday column.
"It's important to hold someone like McCain . . . . accountable when he cozies up to Mr. Falwell," the Timesman insists.
Neither Krugman nor any of his mainstream colleagues, however, has demanded that Hillary Clinton and her husband be held accountable for "cozying up" to the likes of Al Sharpton and Louis Farrakhan.
Just last October in an interview with the Amsterdam News, Mr. Clinton praised Minister Farrakhan for "standing up for the dignity of family and asking African-American men and fathers to be more responsible." Of Farrakhan's Million Man March, Clinton said: "It was totally non-violent and got a big participation and it also showed ... [that] there’s all these people and they are advocating a responsible agenda and not just asking for something."
Neither Mr. or Mrs. Clinton has had a word to say lately about Farrakhan's recent denunciations of "the wicked Jews."
"It's the wicked Jews, the false Jews that are promoting lesbianism, homosexuality," Farrakhan declared on Feb. 26. "It's wicked Jews, false Jews that make it a crime for you to preach the word of God, then they call you homophobic!"
Compare that to the Falwell comments that have columnists like Krugman throwing a hissy fit, remarks uttered by the reverend in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks: "I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the A.C.L.U., People for the American Way - all of them who have tried to secularize America - I point the finger in their face and say, 'You helped this happen.'"
Unlike Farrakhan, Falwell apologized within days. The Times, on the other hand, has yet to even report the Nation of Islam leader's recent outburst, which also included this insight:
"These neo-cons and Zionists have manipulated Bush and the American government and our boys and girls are dying in Iraq and in Afghanistan for the cause of Israel, not for the cause of America! Israel is the tail waggin' the dog, which is America."
And if McCain is to be held accountable for Rev. Falwell's remarks, what about Mrs. Clinton's recent trip to Rev. Sharpton's National Action Network headquarters in New York, where she blasted Republicans for running Congress like "a plantation."
Should Hillary be held accountable for Rev. Sharpton's earlier critique of Jews as "diamond merchants"? Or his 2001 comment upon landing in Israel: "I already am in hell"?
Then there's this bit of black pride from the 2004 presidential candidate:
"White folks was in the caves while we was building empires. We taught Philosophy and Astrology and Mathematics before Socrates and them Greek homos ever got around to it."
Mrs. Clinton's 2006 pilgrimage to Rev. Sharpton's headquarters wasn't her first. Back in 1999, when she was shoring up African American support for her presidential run, she followed Rev. Charles Norris, who had just finished reminiscing with the crowd about being fired by his two previous employers.
"Miller No. 1 was a Jew," Norris noted. "Miller No. 2 was a Jew. I was then employed by yet another Jew by the name of Jesus . . . and will not be fired until he thinks it's necessary."
Mrs. Clinton later called the remarks "divisive" - which was enough to satisfy the press.
And THAT folks is one of the reasons that John McCain (R-MSM) is loved by the media but not the GOP base. But apparently McCain is banking on the fact that we will not have another viable candidate who can beat Hitlery or that we will have forgotten about his 2000 run for the White House as an independent candidate in the GOP primary.
Let's not forget the famous quote by Hillary, when she called someone a "F---ing Jew bastard"...The media gave her a pass on that one.

No real Rev. would refer to Holy Land as hell.
Yeah well Mr. Falwell and Pat Robertson do little to help their case. It's all about money to the lot of them left or right. Give me a good honest preacher who doesn't worship the almighty dollar and tell me I'm going to hell if I don't pay up and I'll be happy.
As I recall at the time, Bill Clinton in a speech at Georgetown said something about how the US was paying for its past sins like the Indians and slavery. How is that any different from what Falwell said?

McCain is certainly doing all the right things to reduce his right flank exposure. Out in front on earmarks, in a straw poll told people to support Bush, etc.
It's almost a pity he's so bad on things like immigration, campaign finance, abortion, and real policies like that. He has the possibility to turn the GOP into the minority party pronto.
At least Farrakhan and Falwell agree on the homosexuality issue.
I think she has actually used that term numerous times against multiple persons, according to insiders.

I'm a little disappointed they ASKED McCain to be the speaker. I didn't last terribly long at the University - but I was incredibly proud of the opportunity to hear Oliver North speak there.
Worse than Louis Farrakhan? Are you kidding me? Jerry Falwell has used his wing-tips for tongue depressors from time to time, but Calypso Louie is a flat-out, straight-up, no kidding around, bigoted ass. And (based on his Irwin Corey riff on atonement, Aton, the A-tone, and the number nineteen at the Million Man March) a barking lunatic to boot.
These are perilous times. Hang on to to your soul...it is apparently a valuable thing in the permanent "dimension."
