The liberals would never, ever, do this to prevent U.S. conservatives from leaving the church. I believe this move, if it is real at all, is linked to this news:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/newspaper/0,,175-2102332,00.html

Lambeth is convening super-secret talks to prevent a world-wide schism. This probably means cutting loose the U.S. church from the world-wide communion and probably replacing it with a smaller U.S. affiliate. Liberals don't mind creating smaller churches by chasing off conservatives, but one thing will not tolerate is losing power and property.

If this is true, with ECUSA membership plummeting, one has to wonder whether this is being driven by financial considerations more than anything else.

And mandated us of only the King James Bible?

I prefer a version whose problems have been studied for over 300 years. That's why I have Young's and Strong's concordances. I also have a Douay-Rheims for the Apocrypha.

Back in the early 1960's, I had a homosexual friend who said he was a Christian. Since homosexuality is not the "unforgiven sin", I always figured he was a sinning Christian - just like anybody else who knew better but kept on sinning.

Although I basically still feel that way, it is not a lifestyle that can be condoned by any authentic Christian church. Any church that does, IMO, is NOT a true Christian fellowship. It is of Satan.

That's just me. Somebody else may disagree. That's okay. I don't care. Homosexuality is a sin and to advocate it is an even bigger sin.

It will probably take the form of a "we're sorry that the rest of the world is so close-minded and backwards" pseudo-apology.

Yeah, THAT's "repenting" .. Imagine that prayer of repentence to God.

"God, I'm not willing to admit my sin is wrong, but I MAY CONCEDE that I should not have acted unilaterally..." Amen

Hard to say what effect this (if true) will have on the ELCA.

The homosexual lobby has begun a well-financed and highly organized campaign within ELCA to achieve the same goals. If ECUSA backs off, it will only cause the ELCA homosexuals to redouble their efforts, as they will become the new "front" in the internecine war against Christianity.

That's my fear. The Hein-Fry lectures have been nothing more than a campaign platform for the new hermeneutic of absolute skepticism. At least the UCC says "God is still speaking"--implying that God has spoken through the Word. The most listened to voice in the proposed new ELCA hermeneutic is not that of Christ but that of Culture...and by culture that doesn't mean classic Christendom.

The homosexual problem is not the only thing the Episcopals have to worry about, they also have to contend with the domination of revisionists such as Spong (who draws crowds whenever he speaks). I don't see how Spong can call himself a Christian, he sounds more like an atheist to me.
