The homosexual lobby has begun a well-financed and highly organized campaign within ELCA to achieve the same goals. If ECUSA backs off, it will only cause the ELCA homosexuals to redouble their efforts, as they will become the new "front" in the internecine war against Christianity.
That's my fear. The Hein-Fry lectures have been nothing more than a campaign platform for the new hermeneutic of absolute skepticism. At least the UCC says "God is still speaking"--implying that God has spoken through the Word. The most listened to voice in the proposed new ELCA hermeneutic is not that of Christ but that of Culture...and by culture that doesn't mean classic Christendom.
