Yes but it's not going to happen. It'll most likely be dropped down to a misdemeanor, which is still better than it is now.
What really chaps my hide is the idea that there is even a question about this.

I have no problem with immigrants. My grandparents were immigrants as were my wife and her folks. They migrated here legally from Ecuador.
Interesting item of note: Both my wife and folks-in-law are rabidly AGAINST these illegals. They need to follow the rules - that's all.
You would imagine incorrectly, then. I posted the numbers a week or two ago. The Army is slightly below their recruitment goal. All others are on target, with most being up by several percentage points.

I have been asking this for some time. I have thought about trying with the seat belt laws, speed limits, smoking crap.....none of those are felonies either. ;*)
1. Make illegally being in the US a felony by a certain date.
2. Set up a guest worker program with registration in Mexico. Background checks, linking up with a sponsoring employer (who in turn gets checked out), everything else, all has to be in place before the guest worker visa is approved. (Not hard to do, considering.)
3. Tell the border patrol to ignore the people jumping the fence back into Mexico.

I say kick them out but since that is not what is going to be done, why not give them a green card (require English to receive it) and NO benefits? Take their taxes. If they present themselves at a hospital they are legally turned away. No student loans, etc. for their kids. If they are caught with false ID they are felons and prosecuted. Let the churches and do-gooders take care of their health and other needs. They have no right to vote if they are not a citizen.
