The Rev. Jesse Jackson is touring Southern cities this week to rally opposition to next month's mayoral election in New Orleans, saying too many Hurricane Katrina victims scattered around the country will be unable to vote.
He is asking black churches, black colleges and other organizations in cities like Atlanta, Jackson, Miss., and Memphis, Tenn., to encourage their members to march on New Orleans on April 1. The election is set for April 22.
Jackson and other civil rights leaders have demanded that the election be postponed. But they have not said when they believe the balloting should be held.
Jackson said the march will be the most critical demonstration since the civil rights era.

Y'know that it WASN'T just black people who evacuated New Orleans. In fact, if the media reports are accurate, it was the non-black people who left ahead of the storm and only black people were left behind in New Orleans (meaning they would be the ones there to vote). Those who were bussed into Houston got registered in the system. But what about those who drove themselves to College Station or Mabank? Or Shreveport?
There was also some concern that the people who relocated to Houston would vote in our local election. Best make sure they aren't double voting.

Never trust the Reverend with your food. He admits he used to spit in the food of white customers at a restaurant he worked at.

Jesse Jackson doesn't care about white people. Jesse Jackson hates white people. He has admitted to spitting in the food of white people when he was a teen waiter in restaurants in SC.........

Oh please.............It has been broadcast all over the country for the past 3 months now. If a katrina victim does not know elections are coming, and do not contact the city for an absentee ballot, then they are either too ignorant, too stupid, or too lazy to vote. Screw 'em.........

--- The Hurrican Katrina 'refuges' have been in their new locations long enough to establish legal residence, or will be by the time the election is held.
If they have been receiving their welfare checks elsewhere for the past 6 months + 1 day, legally they are residents of their new states for tax purposes (if they pay taxes)
Jessie again is advocating voter fraud

I wonder how many ex-NO residents have registered as residents of the place they ended up in. Legally speaking, if they registered as a resident of their current location by applying for a drivers license, they are no longer voters in NO.
of course, the corruption in NO really makes the outcome of an election questionable.

I understand that all over the south where NOLA residents took refuge, that the majority of the residents are getting pretty anxious to re-patriate those welfare loafers back where they can vote in the NOLA elections.
Maybe they can work out a deal to bus them all on down there, so that the Democrats have enough "chocolate" to win the election.
I guess it will all turn out in the end to reflect what communities pay the biggest bounties to their socially-dependant classes. It's the American way...
Mississipi and Texas will probably not go along with that game, so eventually the welfare careerists will go back where they are more welcome.
And if that's not New Orleans, well, maybe San Francisco..

I have not heard that addressed. I guess you can just "intend" to return and count as a voter. Or vote in Austin at the new satellite voting center:

If Jesse doesn't think they should have an election right now, he's free to stay home and not vote.
