It has been a bit unusual the past few years. Most SVR weather has seemed to have been on the eastern end of the traditional tornado alley... lots of stuff in MO/AR/KY/TN/etc.

After May 1999, you all needed a bit of a break.

About two years ago a town about 15 miles NW of me was hit by a tornado (F4) that was 2 1/2 miles wide. It supposedly was the largest tornado in recorded history. I personally went out and drove through the countryside to see for myself, the breadth of this thing was amazing. The name of the town it hit was Hallam, NE.

My nephew goes to school in Champaigne, and is in DFW trying to fly back. I figured he was safe staying at the airport for the night.

Now THEY have a warning. Sheesh.

I figured it probably wasn't. I just said that because of Lincoln logs.

I don't want to experience either. Sounds like you have. Earthquakes don't seem like a problem where you are now.

That second line runnning across MO/AR has me worried, the cold front is behind the second line of storms. It looks like it is getting longer and wider.

It been years since I've been through Kentland, but I believe it is still mostly farmland around there. The Lafayette area has had its share of bad tornadoes (the area just northwest of Purdue between West Lafayette and Otterbein is known as a local Tornado Alley by weather forecasters). Folks around there know what a "fraidy hole" is, and they use them. With a little bit of luck, nothing was badly hit.

The crops aren't even in yet, so a good hail storm probably won't do much damage, even if a bunch of folks end up having to replace their windshields.

He should be fine. They've only posted a tornado watch, no warning. But he may get awakened from thunder within the next hour or so.

Here's a Dallas radar (also zoomable) you can watch:

http://tinyurl.com/ffyzn

DFW airport is smack dab on the county line between Ft. Worth and Dallas, and about halfway between the east-west freeway shown (that connects those downtowns) and the northern boundaries of those counties.
