HAS ANYBODY SAID IT YET? BOYCOTT THE OSCARS (Oscars Live Thread)
3-4-06 | freedom4me

Posted on 03/05/2006 1:43:20 PM PST by freedom4me

I suppose on this thread it goes without saying, but I'll say in anyway...BOYCOTT THE OSCARS tonight.

I want the ratings for this year's program go into the toilet (where most the nominated movies belong). I won't waste my money to see the films, my electricity to watch the Oscars, or my time watching to witness Hollywood's self-adulation fest.

Pass it on...

You are right, the Cheney joke was more of a poke at Bork, it seemed the audience laughed accordingly.

When was the last good Oscar Night? When Return of the King won 11 awards?

I don't know if I'm the only one that noticed, but it looked like Tom Hanks was really mad about something. He strode in to do his presentation with the look of the perfect storm on his face. At the same time he was walking toward the mike, he was looking off-stage and angrily mouthing something to someone.

Once he got to the mike, he never cracked a smile, got right into his lines, and got it over with quick. He was not a happy camper.

I'd sure like to know what was going on.

I agree he seemed short on material. But he didn't go to the obvious politics well when he could have in an instant.

Crash is an outstanding look at prejudice. I hated to see it end. I would like to see a sequel that followed these characters lives further.

Well, I'm glad to hear Stewart didn't do a bush bash all night. That is what I expected.

He probably won't be invited back...lol.

It was great because he was irreverent, not pandering.

The thing I found interesting at the Oscars was Hollywood trying to get us to go back to the theatres. Then they showed all of the really good older movies. Nothing recent. Hmmm, that should tell them somthing.

That's what he does best. ....and he seemed completely at ease. Hopefully he'll get another invite.

I agree. I thought Crash was a terrific movie. It didn't really come together until the end and then it was brillant. I didn't see it in the theater but watched it on DVD. May have to rent it again...I just remember being pretty blown away the way it all came together in the end.

Also saw Brokeback Mountain and despite some of the more graphic scenes, I thought it was a very well done film. I was glad to see Ang Lee win the director's award for it.

I also saw Munich and absolutely hated it. In fact, I checked my watch at least 3 times wondering when it might end!

Didn't get a chance to see the other films but I am seeing Capote this week.

Anyway, I missed most of the show (had to watch Gonzaga win another game - D'oh!) but was glad to see no sweeps. I still think Phoenix should have won for Walk the Line but at least Witherspoon won.

I was waiting to mention this. On the Internet Movie Database ( IMBD ) message board for this movie, the hope was that BBM winning Best Picture was their greatest dream come true. A mandate for the gay lifestyle. Tons of threads about how great the movie is almost making the DUmmies appear same.

Now they're in total despair. Fruits and weirdos whining and gnashing of teeth so bad one would think it's the end of the world. The board now loads at a crawl, but I did manage to find this priceless response to a thread lamenting the loss,

"Re: The one worse thing than this movie not winning is

That about says it all.

Not totally deadpan...he would laugh when he knew it was funny but the crowd was not wanting to laugh at themselves...

THAT is what I enjoyed.

The fact that a lib called me a homophobe for not wanting to see it says it all, in my opinion. It's politics and propaganda first and movie second, even in their eyes.

Exactly right. Their 'hook' is to make the movie artistically well, then use that to get us to see the movie, regardless of content. No way for me.

Crash is an outstanding look at prejudice and how they change the direction traveled in life. I hated to see it end. I would like to see a sequel that followed these characters lives further.

Munich was terrible.

Eric Bana was excellent, but Spielberg has been phoning it in for years.

He is supposed to be on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE in a while...should be interesting...Kimmel isn't exactly an "inside the lines" type buy either.

I just thought that Hanks was being to the point. It is tough though, to be watching tv while you are reading Freerepublic. :-)
