03/02/06 FOX Poll: Most Oppose Port Deal; Republicans Lose Ground Thursday, March 02, 2006 By Dana Blanton PHOTOS
Most Americans oppose allowing a Dubai company to run some U.S. ports, even as a majority understands the U.S. would continue to control port security, according to a new FOX News poll. One in four sees the United Arab Emirates as a strong ally, but most either disagree or are unsure.
In addition, the poll shows Republicans have lost ground on the issue of terrorism, and by a wide margin voters now think it would be better for the country if Democrats win control of Congress in this years midterm election.
For only the second time of his presidency, the poll finds that President Bushs overall job approval rating has fallen below 40 percent today 39 percent of Americans say they approve and a 54 percent majority disapproves. Late last year the presidents approval hit a record-low of 36 percent (8-9 November 2005).

The only thing that will turn these poll numbers around is for there it to be dragged out, let all the press and everyone else interested look into this company, and for them to find not one single credible specific allegation of misdeeds by this company.
Then the numbers will flip, and fast -- and far.
All that needs to be done to defeat this is to ask any critics, "Are you aware of any specific, credible allegations against this specific company?"
"No? I see . . ."
LOL...you're a real piece of work sinky...
Are you aware of any specific, credible allegations of wrongdoing against this company?
WOW.
No.
Is such knowledge necessary for a reasonable American to oppose this?
Are you serious?
You oppose this company taking over a contract.
You must have a specific reason this specific company should not be allowed to do that, yes? A reason based on some past behavior by this company?
I never thought political arguments could be so much fun until I tried them the Freeper way. :)

Yep they are!! America wants Congress to pass a law, no foreign interest or leases for port terminals. DP and all foreign shipping company's give up leases in American ports and leave. Congress gives all the leases to American companies that have no ships and lobbyist pay big money to Congress men. The American company calls DP and says hey , we got the lease and management of terminals. Bring us some cargo. DP says OK send me a terminal lease and we will send cargo. American Company say no can do,its against the law. DP says, are you crazy? You want me me to start sending ships half way around the world without assured dock space or docking time. You think I'm nuts. Crazy American says take it or leave it Arab, no foreign interest in our ports!!! Arab says I leave it. We and the other countries just passed same law as you but only for America. We will continue to lease to each other but not to you because you would not lease to us. Your Navy port terminal leases have been terminated so get your stinking Navy out of our ports. All oil will be shipped to India and China. American company calls congress, hey guys this ain't working, we need some subsidy.
That you engage in cheap demagoguery is no surprise to anybody.
That would totally depend on which way the WH viewed the topic. They'd jump which ever way that wind blew. Blackbird.
You've made your position abundantly clear. If you oppose this deal, you're a racist.
... racism is just the general term. Just because I didn't say nationalityism or relgiousism or whatever, doesn't change the fact that you are judging over a billion people, all inside your mind, and treating them as one. I call that racism, but whatever.
You've also made it clear that you consider those who oppose Islam to be racists.
If America and the western world follows your thinking, it is doomed.
What specific, credible evidence of wrongdoing do you have against this company to cause you to oppose their doing a job in our ports?
You have summarized the business situation rather well. Except that this suspicion of America will cascade down to other industries as well. Who wants to be an ally to the United States, putting your own country at risk, when a legitimate opportunity that could work to your benefit could be shot down because a bunch of crackers don't like the color of your skin.
In 43 countries that we do business this is the procedure. We have federal inspectors in the 43 countries. They must have a manifest in hand 24 hrs. before a container loaded. The inspectors check and observes the loading. They then close the container and put a seal on it. The container is then put on a ship headed for the US. Thirty hrs out from the US port federal security starts tracking the ship. The coast guard checks the ship 9 miles out. If a seal is broken the container must be throughly checked. The coast guard also scans the containers with a hand held radiation detector and can X-ray the container. Once the ship is in terminal it is unloaded by union longshoremen (all have security checks) and taken through customs where on the the truck it receives both a X-ray and rolls through a radiation detector.
If a seal is broke or they see any problem that container is sent to a port facility to be physically unloaded and checked (three to four days). The randomly pull about 5% of containers to be physically inspected. They charge the receiver $750 to physically inspect the the container and if they can't get it back in the container you have to rent another container and a second truck to get it to its destination. Its not when it Physically Opened that its first checked, Its physically Closed and sealed after the check!!! When a politician or MSM tells you that only 5% are physically opened they forgot to tell you that 100% are checked before closing. Its a deliberate deception for agenda and a lie. My business was a import business and I know the procedure. I hated the $750 charge because I shipped some marble. Marble is slightly radioactive so those containers are pulled. Make sure you have the marble on the back of the container so it can be checked quickly and they can check it again for radiation and you don't have to unload the whole container. Don't take my word for it nor your own opinion. Call the port authority and tell them you want to ship containers, they will give you the procedure. The whole uproar is a hoax!!!!!!
Those who oppose doing business with the UAE should be even more opposed to buying oil from Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iran, Venezuela, etc. And they should be horrified that we buy a long long list of products from China, a closed, repressive state which exploits its people. The UAE is a good ally to have in the Middle East, and improving relations with that country is a positive step. Do they agree with everything we say? Of course not. Which countries do?
The DPW deal has already been thoroughly reviewed, and it will stand. The ports will be more secure, not less.
Are you aware that the government of Dubai OWNS this company?
Are you aware that the United Arab Emirates, of which Dubai is of course a member, has been one of the biggest contributors to the Al Aqsa Intifada Fund?
This ain't just another business deal, people....

He does, he said it before.
He has a problem with Arabs generally due to their relgion infused political system, which is a valid point.
He then generalizes, ignores everything about UAE, and projects his 'problem view' onto all Arabs. But for some reason, he thinks that its not racism because its not about skin color.
Very bizzare, but its clear he would have the USA make enemies of the billion+ arabs in the world, because he can't get over something that takes place ENTIRELY in his own mind.
Thank You
I find it interesting that you are the one here flinging racial epithets.
But what about this company?
Do you have any evidence that they have in any case ever acted in a way to make any port unsafe, ever?
Generalities are fun, sure -- but do you have any specifics?
