Justice Scalia: Guns Not Just for Crime

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia fondly remembers carrying a rifle around New York City as a boy and says outdoorsmen should attack the idea that guns are only used for crimes.

An avid outdoorsmen who's hunted with Vice President Dick Cheney, Scalia spoke Saturday at the National Wild Turkey Federation's annual convention.

"The attitude of people associating guns with nothing but crime, that is what has to be changed," Scalia told the audience of about 2,000.

"I grew up at a time when people were not afraid of people with firearms," said Scalia, noting that as a youth in New York City he was part of a rifle team at the military school he attended.

"I used to travel on the subway from Queens to Manhattan with a rifle," he said. "Could you imagine doing that today in New York City?"

Scalia was criticized in 2004 for hunting ducks with Cheney while the Supreme Court was considering a case involving Cheney's energy task force. This month, a lawyer hunting with Cheney in Texas was wounded when he stepped in the way as Cheney fired at a bird.

The nonprofit turkey federation is dedicated to conserving wild turkeys and preserving hunting traditions.

Nothing wrong with blathering. We all blather from time to time. And yes, States powers and duties need to be revisited. Not only on the Second Amendment issues, but on others such as Roe V Wade that has been twisted so that it implies a power the Judiciary was never meant to have.

Overturning Roe is almost eqaully as important as overturning the NFA of '34 and the GCA of '68.

These are things that at a Federal level the Legislature and the Judiciary should have just said, "We are not allowed to do anything in these areas as we haven't been given the power".

But fiat prohibitions on items like guns or on sins like abortion are not Constitutional under our due process of law.

That is how I read it as well.

Everyone who is eligible should buy a gun and learn how to use it. So when the home invader shows up, you'll be ready to defend yourself.

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" per the Second Amendment, but the liberal lunatics have already violated this right, repeatedly.

But under the doctrine of intent, Constitutionally, abortion would be defined legally as murder

Not just a sin and murder under the law is prohibited

Neither our US Constitution, nor any state constitutions mention abortion or the power to prohibit it.

--- We have murder laws that apply to the issue. They should be enforced.
If you see a murder, demand that your local prosecutor indict and hold a trial..

But fiat prohibitions on items like guns or on sins like abortion are not Constitutional under our due process of law.

But under the doctrine of intent, Constitutionally, abortion would be defined legally as murder.

It already is. People that murder pregnant women are routinely charged with the murder of the unborn child as well, and convicted.

Not just a sin and murder under the law is prohibited.

So? Get that prosecutor to indict & hold murder trials of women who have had abortions. The feds can't stop a State from doing so. I understand South Dakota intends to do just that.

I didn't know that. Well they should, really.

If abortion is killing than those who kill should be prosecuted.....
