The Andy Griffith Show was a nightly experience for me growing up. It would come on TBS about suppertime (dinnertime for our northern brethren).

TBS!?!?!!!!???

You were watching RERUNS!

I grew up watching the originals, you whipper snapper!

There are some you just want to live forever, and think they will.

John Wayne was one, Ronald Reagan, and yeah....little old Don Knotts.

I remember seeing him in all those movies as a kid-The Reluctant Astronaut, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again, etc, even the Scooby Doo cartoons...he was a good guy and will be missed.

I thought his dealing with Otis was wonderful. Whether trying to rehalibate him or get the location of the bootleggers / distillers, any plan ended up causing trouble.

And of course, Andy (the only adult in Mayberry) straightens it all out by the end of the show.

The picture of Steve and Bill reminds me of Dana's best astronaut line:

"So, is that a crash helmet?"

"Oh, I hope not!"

Lying in my easy chair yesterday recovering from a vasectomy operation (don’t laugh), I had a stack of DVD’s ready to play, just lying back taking it easy per the Doctors orders. My first movie of choice was Don Knotts, “The Reluctant Astronaut”. And this afternoon I find out this comic genius is dead. God speed Mr. Knotts, thanks for all the laughs.

A movie Return to Mayberry I think was the name had Barney running for Sheriff, a sober Ottis as the Mayor, and Earnest T was hainting a local lake trying to derail Barneys campaign. It was Ok but some things are best left alone :>}

What a bummer.The Guy was a legend.

He was well loved here in Australia as well.

I remember my folks and us kids absolutely busting a gut laughing at him giving that speach with that guy yelling "Atta boy Luther!" At school the next day there were kids standing around shaking their papers and cracking up laughing!

God bless you Don...they don't make 'em like you anymore!

The day I gave birth to my daughter they had an Andy Griffith re-run marathon going on the TV. Being able to laugh at Barney during that 12 hour labor session is the only thing that kept me from killing someone. The man was a comedic genius. R.I.P.

Yea me too. But I am grateful for TV land and Nick at Nite to keep the shows going for future generations to see.
