The other night Jimmy Carter popped up on the Larry King show, live via satellite, standing in a ski lodge and wearing a fur-lined outdoorsman jacket as though he'd just come in from felling a spruce.
He was publicizing an upcoming auction in which he would sell the furniture he'd been making.
Also his wine. This may have come to many viewers as a surprise: There is Jimmy Carter Wine.
The former president didn't say how he made it, but you know what it's probably called: peanut noir.
Also he plans to sell his paintings. "My paintings," he told King, "have gotten to be pretty popular."
In fact, he said, one of his paintings had been used as the cover for his recent novel.
George Will recently called Carter "an even worse ex-president than he was a president," a snippety remark that probably reflects Will's jealousy that Carter has more hobbies.
Liberal Democrats, demonstrating characteristic loyalty, tried to oust Carter in favor of Teddy Kennedy.
Carter survived, but fell in the fall election to a sunny, twinkly-eyed former movie star.
Carter hadn't just lost the presidency; in effect he'd been fired.
Answering a call, here comes the most indefatigable man in America: Jimmy Carter, ex-president-for-life.

Just finished reading that book. Always knew that Carter was the worst President ever, but never knew exactly what kind of a**hole he truly was until this book.
Carter is as amoral a human being as possible.

She's classy and GWB is a lucky man -- we should all be so fortunate to wake up next to a woman of her fiber, every morning.

Ex-president Jimmy, IMHO, has been, and continues to be, an embarrasment to both himself and this country. What I don't understand is why he continues to bury himself politically? Is he insane? Judging by his wild eyes, I don't think that he's clicking on all 8 and would seriously suggest some counselling for this lost soul!!!!!

"Liberal Democrats, demonstrating characteristic loyalty, tried to oust Carter in favor of Teddy Kennedy."
False. Carter had humiliated Kennedy by 1976. Kennedy never regained any sort of effective national prominence after that; any "liberal Democrats" who attempted to "oust" Carter were tilting at windmills, their shining prince collased in drunken tatters long before. I recall a book by David Halberstam which described Carter's ascent, beginning when he deliciously stood up Kennedy in the latter's support-seeking trip to Atlanta in 1975. Damn, wish I could remember the title of that book.
Carter may have been a horrible president (and, as this article cites George Will as correctly saying, perhaps an even worse ex-president) but it was he who put the final bullet in Kennedy's presidential ambitions. For that (if precious little else) we owe him some gratitude.
To: george76
One should not forget the Carter economy. 16% inflation in a totally stagnant economy with heavy job losses, while he's giving speeching blaming it on our "malaise". I couldn't get job at McDonald's, but did (much) later make a few pennies selling CD's at a bank--for 11% interest!!!!
The stuff about Presidents not impacting the economy is B.S. Anyone alive then knew that the sorry state of country at that time was J.Carter's fault. His lack of leadership brought the country shame and shook its confidence to the core.
