I appreciate your grasp of certain facts which I was not aware of. I was just going by simple country boy logic that says you buy a business to make money and do whatever you can to protect your investment.

I strongly opposed it at first. However, that was before Hillary, Schmucky, Levin and all the phonies, Liberals, Dems and MSM jumped in to make political hay of a deal that went from smelling foul to merely smelling funny. That alone should be enough to convince anybody one is on the "wrong" side by bashing the decision.

Now after studying it more I am still mildly opposed to it. But, I could probably live with it for the time being if we go to school and press ahead to pro actively close our borders and change the business climate in this country so American businesses can bid (the latter conditions are very much up in the air, but shouldn't be).

Frankly, I think a lot of the nasty reaction on this is attributable to pent-up rage over our criminally open borders and the syrupy "Religion Of Peace"TM crapola our politicians try to make us swallow daily.

At least this should underline the American People want action on our borders, ports and overall security - and they want it done yesterday (actually, 4 years ago), and not in the glacial timing and lackadaisical attitude of our feckless government bureaucracies, obstructing globalists and assorted navel gazers who continue to live in a pre-911 world.

This puts the whole adventure into the category of 'jobs Americans don't want to do' with the added 'American companies don't want to do'. This is the sad part for America.

You might change your mind about this once you understand why "American companies don't want to do this."

It's not that they don't want to do it -- it's that foreign companies have about a 50-year head start in building the global shipping conglomerates that dominate this industry.

Initially I was opposed on the usual security grounds.
Then after more information I was ok,not supporting, but ok with it. After all, most of the day to day operations will stay the same.

But now I am opposed to it again.
Even though operations and security likely won't change, the owners will surely have inside information about security that could compromise the port.
And the ME owners could well be infiltrated with Al Qaeda.

Under today's atmosphere I oppose the ME, China, or any other country running our ports, including the Panama Canal.

Also according the what I heard on FOX news these companies like P&O only lease space at these ports. They do not lease the whole port. I do not know what percentage, but it is only a part of the port.

No, they were caught. They COULD have realised that the democrats were waiting for a chance to attack them on security issues, so when this deal came up they COULD have had a plan to handle it.

Of course, this is the 3rd year of us having deals involving UAE and none of the previous deals raised any questions.

And when the sale was announced last year, NOBODY stood up and screamed about it, so why would they think that anybody was upset?

Well, they should realise that the democrats are evil and will destroy this country to get power back, and therefore they should always be ready.

Bush runs the country too much like a business, when it's more like a day care center.

BTW, the Administration report on Katrina is EXCELLENT, just like a good management after-action report would be, with lots of good solutions -- but the media is ignoring it for this port crap.

And the port stuff was ignored last week because of the all-important Cheney Shooting.

Support.

If Dell or some other supplier were sold to an UAE business, would we quit using our computers?

Support but I think if they really wanted trouble they should have given the contract to Halliburton! Then you would have heard a high pitched squeal right before all of the Democrat's heads exploded!

That's right. In the port of New York, for example, P&O Ports is a 50% partner with Maersk in operating one of seven port terminals (five of them container terminals, by my count). So they are operating either 1/14th or 1/10th of the terminals in the port, depending on how you look at it.

"However, in general I think it is fundamentally wrong to have any major U.S. seaports or airports owned by foreign entities. In the long run, I believe this outsourcing of America greatly erodes our middle class, eventually leaving us as polarized, economically, as most of the rest of the world."

That was the basis of my question in # 211 ... "Where do we begin to turn back the tide?"

I oppose the sale of all American assets on US soil to foreign companies or governments

Are you consistent in that regard? If it's bad to sell Honda a few acres for a dealership in your town, is it equally bad for Ford or GM to have dealerships in Europe?
