Statement by Senator John McCain on the debate over the Bush Administrations decision to allow Dubai Ports World of the United Arab Emirates manage U.S. sea ports.
We all need to take a moment and not rush to judgment on this matter without knowing all the facts. The Presidents leadership has earned our trust in the war on terror, and surely his administration deserves the presumption that they would not sell our security short. Dubai has cooperated with us in the war and deserves to be treated respectfully. By all means, lets do due diligence, get briefings, seek answers to all relevant questions and assurances that defense officials and the intelligence community were involved in the examination and approval of this transaction. In other words, lets make a judgment when we possess all the pertinent facts. Until then, all we can offer is heat and little light to the discussion.

And where did I say how I came down on this issue? Go ahead, search my posts back a few weeks, you won't find it.
But I have been doing a lot of reading on the subject.
Nice use of "we" and "you" though.
100% of the terrorists are Arabs and you want their help? That's like asking a convicted rapist to guard your 14 year old daughter!
Schumer is right on this thing. Maybe it's a situation akin to a broken clock being right twice a day, but he's right. By the way, our "cooperation" with Dubai in the past 14 months had nada to do with them controlling our eastern ports. The 'cooperation' was in trying to get them to help us fight terrorism, which is a good idea because in the past they have supported it, (and still do with their support of the Taliban and in siding with Iran that Israel has no right to exist.
But like Pakistan, they are our 'ally' only on the face of things and cannot be trusted like a true ally. Also, the UAE only purchased the P & O very recently.
My goodness. You might be right...lol.
I understand that they will own the companies that operate the ports.
The British company that is selling, has owned the companies that operate the ports until now.
don't be surprised to see speaker pelosi and majority leader reid then. this one has legs. because the story is not over, more will come out, the dirty laundry about the UAE lobbying specifics is going to come out eventually. and the individual port authorities in these cities are not going to roll over.
GREAT post!!!
My impression is that a lot of the people making these arguments trust people who took a pay check from Ted Turner to say WHAT HE WANTED THEM TO SAY rather than someone who has stood up to the terrorists and actually killed them and driven them out of their hiding places.
If it comes down to it I will stand or fall with George W. Bush. I trust him. I trust Dick Cheney. I trust Don Rumsfeld. I trust Condoleeza Rice. Above all I trust God and truly believe that He has given us these people at this time as our best (and perhaps last) chance to avoid the total destruction of all life on this planet.
Please tell me who people who distrust George Bush trust and believe. H Ross? My parent knew him personally. My late mothers observation about him were "crazy as a bitsy bug."
Next?
Not only that, the monkeys are flying out of my butt...Excuse me, I must stand up now.
This is a dumb and fate-tempting idea. The Senate should vote unanimously to override Bush's veto.
Haven't read the whole thread yet, but did you hear that McCain is using W's direct mailing lists for his own Straight Talk fundraising campaign?
Well, I'll take that as an admission that you're just not too bright and don't understand how politics works.
stop wasting my time
Need more time to spam and mock other Freepers?
"...something bizarre is going on when Bush plays the freaking race card over this."
Amen! If PC concern over how it looks to Arabs is the best argument he can give for backing it, he deserves to get beaten on this deal.
If the UAE is a bosom buddy of ours, they should be the target of relentless attacks from enraged Islamo-facists. So are they being attacked? If not, we should wonder...
why not?
Ain't it the truth!

once the republican congress sees some polls, and sees that they are effectively "on their own" for the upcoming 2006 election - they will do whatever it takes to survive, and they should. Bush doesn't have to stand for election again, the republican congress does.
