Statement by Senator John McCain on the debate over the Bush Administrations decision to allow Dubai Ports World of the United Arab Emirates manage U.S. sea ports.
We all need to take a moment and not rush to judgment on this matter without knowing all the facts. The Presidents leadership has earned our trust in the war on terror, and surely his administration deserves the presumption that they would not sell our security short. Dubai has cooperated with us in the war and deserves to be treated respectfully. By all means, lets do due diligence, get briefings, seek answers to all relevant questions and assurances that defense officials and the intelligence community were involved in the examination and approval of this transaction. In other words, lets make a judgment when we possess all the pertinent facts. Until then, all we can offer is heat and little light to the discussion.

With thousands and thousands of miles of coastal lines, the Pacific, Atlantic and Great Lakes, you'd think America might have a Maritime company that could handle these ports and terminals. This whole fiasco is just another great example of how far we've gone in turning our jobs over to foreign countries for King profit, (the real leader of the US). We've become like impotent morons who can't run their own country without foreign help.
Does Halliburton do this sort of thing? Rush mentioned on his show earlier today that NO American company does this. But he did get a chuckle out of what the Dems would say if Halliburton did do this sort of thing and did get the contract.
I don't know where he got his info.
LOL!
I've had a quiet day so far.....
We are not at war with all of Arabia
I am starting to think that the Bush Presidency was the instrument designed to break the back of people who still believed in the country and sovereignty and patriotism. We cannot say, at this point, that we've gotten the government we thought we elected. It makes one wonder the worth of voting. I felt better about this country's longterm health before this whole thing hit the fan. Now I think the hidden power in this country-- the money guys, the multinational CEOs, the people who want no border-- really don't have a patriotic bone in their body. And Bush is their man in Washington.
We're not in a good place....
au contraire

The multi-billion dollar bidding war between Dubai and Singapore over the British ports and ferries operator P&O could be settled this week.

sherm was what the convicts called PCP when I worked for the prison
All the facts I needed to know, I learned on 9-11. McCain standing beside Bush means nothing to me. McCain is CFR, pro-choice, anti gun, globalist and I have NO use for the man! I wouldn't support him for Prez if he were the only candidate running.
Just like everyone else I'm trying to sort through the murkiness, but we're not talking about just a private company taking over port operations, we're talking about a company wholly owned by a foreign governmnt.
Others have pointed out how other foreign companies have invested in various U.S. transportation industries, but that doesn't mean it's right.
It is appropriate to be concerned about a foreign nation, particularly an Islamic nation, having influence over our ports and access to security arrangements and vulnerability assessments. Go ahead, call me names, I don't care. It is the experience all over Europe now that giving more Moslem influence over a nation's affairs is a bad thing. If you start taking a politically correct approach to analyzing this situation, you've lost half the battle in a hurry...
What I find amazing about this entire issue is that with the Liberal DemonRATs now saying that we cannot possibly turn over the ownership of the ports management company to a UAE company because we are at war and our security is paramount, they are admitting the WOT is real! I have been listening to the loony left liberals and the Dems say there really isn't any war, and Iraq had no connection with 911, never attacked us (notwithstanding the constant firing at our aircraft in the no-fly zone), yada, yada. Seems like Bush and Rove have trapped them again - they are now on record there really is a WOT.
McCain is going to run again and wants Bush to back him.
I will NEVER vote for McCain!
#5 If that is true, why didn't anyone bid on it?
Aww. ;-)
Now, that's just sad
If you and millions of others hadn't voted, you would be looking at 3 more years of John Kerry and the Breck Boy, wondering why you hadn't fought harder to keep them from power.
We've been through it in Canada for the last 12 years. We were so mad at our Conservatives, we gave it all up to the Liberals.
Once given up, it took 12 years to get it back.
If you are against this, by all means, fight it, but (Behold Ultimate Truth) don't give up.
Thanks for providing two things missing from this debate: Facts and Facts.
The UAE outsources their security functions to Western security companies. In matter of fact, Western companies are raking in the dough providing security for UAE infrastructure. The same is true in all the Gulf countries.
Let me know when you post the rant I don't want to miss it
Yeah, that ends all debate, because Jimmy Carter happens to agree. Yup, no need for facts or discussion--you've got Hillary and Harry Reid and Chuckie, so that beats Jimmy. Wow.
(shaking head)
How many US bases are now in the UAE since Saudi Arabia kicked us out?
How many US Ships stop there?
And this is your defense of hiring Arab muslims to run our ports? Yikes.
Let me clarify things. They are all at war with us, (except those whose 'friendship' we are buying), just take a look around the world and watch their hatred for all things Christian, Jewish and Western. A couple cartoons and they burn down Western businesses, embassies, Churches and begin murdering Christians in Africa, the Philippines and Pakistan. There would be many other murders as well if not for the fearful heads of the Sheikdoms who had to put the riots down in order to maintain control of their own countries. Please wake up.
I'm not "backing Hillary or Schumer," I'm just not backing Bush on this. I don't need those morons to tell me something is terribly wrong with this. I can think for myself. Bush is dead wrong. Well.......maybe he won't be the one who ends up dead, but I fear for those who live in those port cities.
I wouldn't ask the fox to guard the hen house either, because I would NEVER be that foolish! I simply don't trust Muslims, and for good reason. They want to kill me, my family and yours. They want me to bow to Allah, but I will NEVER do that, because I will NEVER worship Satan!!
The End Times approach!
There's no doubt we are already living in the End Times!
Try trusting your own good judgement, and not deriving right and wrong from authority. Life is not so easy that you can say "I trust X", and that X will be infallible, never make mistakes, never have an impure motive, and never trust an evil counselor.
Appealing to trust is not a viable argument when the risk is extreme. People such as myself who have well-founded concerns (e.g., the UAE being a terrorist factory and the ports contract offering an excellent opportunity for an enemy megastrike) cannot simply put aside those concerns completely because someone we normally trust says it is good. In cases like this (as in the Miers case), the interests are too great to rely on trust alone. Another argument will have to be made, and as in the Miers case no good answer is forthcoming.
The UAE cannot assure us sufficiently that their personnel will not take advantage of their position to launch attacks. Whatever the position of their government, the position of the people that the government rules (and will therefore employ in positions of power) is jihadist in the extreme. It is thus suicidal to allow them any entree into our vital national security interests.
