ROLLA, Kan. (AP) - A pickup truck carrying 19 illegal immigrants from Mexico crashed on a rural highway after a rear wheel came off, killing three people and injuring 16, authorities said.

The pickup flipped over and landed in a ditch, said Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Ron Knoefel.

Nine people were riding in the truck's extended cab - four on the front seat, four in the back seat, and one on the floor between the seats, Knoefel said. He said the 10 others were in the truck's bed, which was covered with a camper shell.

At least one of the injured was reported in critical condition.

Mexicans, like Italians, Arabs, and Greeks, are "corner" people who like to hang out in the Plaza/Piazza/Souk, etc. If the center of action in your town is the local Wal Mart, that's where they will hang out.

I know that the Mexicans have essentially repopulated places like Garden City and work most of the meat packing jobs. Western Kansas used to be eerily empty of people, now it looks like South Texas in terms of demographics.

A pick-up truck carrying nineteen people??!!

They obviously were doing jobs that Americans don't want to do.

Make Employers Check Work Eligibility

You can now pressure your local employers to check the eligibility of prospective employees.

Social Security numbers can now be verified by using the following toll free number: 1-800-772-6270. Up to 5 names can be verified over the phone and up to 50 by faxing a inquiry to your local Social Security office. It is all explained in a publication put out by Social Security- " Employer Reporting Instructions & Information. "

Two's company,
Three's a crowd,
Nineteen illegal aliens rolling down the freeway in a pickup truck,
Is a recipe for disaster.

I live in a metro Kansas City, MO area and all of my local grocery stores have groceries, aisle signs, meat department, etc. in Spanish, ditto WalMart, KMart, Target, CVS Pharmacy(Pharmacia).

In local grocery store and Home Depot, they advertise over their intercom for specials, Spanish first followed by English

I went to my local Price Chopper grocery store, they had torn out an entire section once devoted to candy and replaced it with Mexican food. I went to the walmart grocery store. About 50% of the customers seemed to be Mexican.

Well Pete from Shawnee Mission, does that Price Chopper happen to be on Roe, or how about that Home Depot on Antioch - advertizing over PA systems in Spanish? Dittos for customers as well as staff - very Hispanic speaking and kind of ignoring the "Gringos."

It had a camper shell, should have easily been able to carry 30, 35 if they were from Oaxaca....usually they stack them like cordwood...

Both located along Metcalf Ave (Highway), the heart of darkness in JoCo. For variety I sometimes go to Whole Paycheck grocery store. Havent been to Home Depot in a while. Finished a remodeling cycle a couple of years ago and won't go into the store unless I have to. Its happening, though.

I live in Liberal Kansas, seeing 10 plus Mexicans piled into a car is not that unusual, just glad they weren't holding their 3 month old while doing it, like most people i see.you can not drive through this town and see more that 3 English speaking business in one block on main street. You can not get a job if you don't speak Spanish. English isn't even a requirement to graduate from our schools. Where this world going???? Went to walmart, Panteen PRO V now has a SPANISH shampoo, entirely in spanish. National Beef is the packing plant here in town, they have someone go in before "border Patrol" Comes and tells all the illegal to go home so they don't get fines.

No doubt, someone inside of a government agency, perhaps even Border Patrol, get a little something under the table for the "heads up." That used to happen all the time when gambling, moonshine, prostitution used to be considered illegal. Now the government handles most of the gambling they merely refer to it as the "Lottery."
