HBO's Gumbel: Lack of Blacks Makes Olympics 'Look Like a GOP Convention'

There were some eye-opening remarks from Bryant Gumbel on the most recent episode of HBO's Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel. According to a transcript posted by a television columnist named Seth Frelich, Gumbel said the following in his closing monologue last week (emphasis mine):

"Finally, tonight, the Winter Games. Count me among those who don’t care about them and won’t watch them ... Because they’re so trying ... Like, try not to be incredulous when someone attempts to link these games to those of the ancient Greeks who never heard of skating or skiing. So try not to laugh when someone says these are the world’s greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that makes the Winter Games look like a GOP convention. Try not to point out that something’s not really a sport if a pseudo-athlete waits in what’s called a kiss-and-cry area, while some panel of subjective judges decides who won ... So if only to hasten the arrival of the day they’re done, when we can move on to March Madness — for God’s sake, let the games begin."

During the Seoul Olympics, Gumbel called the Korean children adopted by Americans, "the nation's number one export". This was a deep embarassment to the proud nation of Korea, and it caused new laws to be put in place which made it more difficult for foreignors to adopt Korean children. Gumbel is an ass.

Blacks dhave not generally gone for winter sports. There are, of course, exceptions and their presence in the Winter Olypics is exceptional. One or two will empnhasize their rarity more than none at all. Now in the Summer Games blacks pretty much dominate certain competitions. Gumbel, as most liberals, are making the case that black people must be forced to like and participate in the same proportions or higher in every walk of life as Euro-white people. In a real nonregimented world different people have different preferences and different ethnic, religious, gender, etc, will show different preponderences of preferences. This is anathema to liberals.

So, it's racism that blacks don't care to participate in sports like hockey, skiing, curling, figure skating and speed skating. But, good ol' Bryant has no problem with blacks being overrepresented in the Summer Olympics.

I would agree that the Olympic Winter Games jumped the shark with the inclusion of all the X-Games crap.

They probably added the Snowboard Cross thing (there's like 3 or 4 snowboarders going down a hill bouncing off of each other) to get the NASCAR and Motocross crowd ;-)

Winter athletes tend to come from winter climates.

Besides that, I'm tired of any so-called sport that gets officiated by a "judge."

If it's not based on a clock, a tape measure, or a score, then it ain't a sport....even if it requires athleticism.
