Thirty-six minutes into tonight's Hardball, host Chris Matthews finally permitted a Cheney defender, former Cheney aide Ron Christie, to grace his program. Even then, Christie was not given an unobstructed opportunity to make his case, having to share the segment with hyper-partisan Dem consultant Bob Shrum - he of the record-breaking number of losing presidential campaigns - who tried to drag in everything from Iraq to Hurricane Katrina.
Until Christie's belated appearance, Hardball was an absolutely ceaseless calvacade of criticism heaped on the Veep and his handling of the shooting incident that included:
clips of NBC reporter David Gregory haranguing Scott McClellan; file footage of Gloria Borger supposedly tripping up Cheney over the Saddam/Al-Qaeda connection; MSNBC reporter David Shuster's decidedly downbeat portrayal of events; a grim assessment from Washington Post reporter Jim Vandehei; a pessimistic view of Whittington's medical situation by former NIH director Bernadine Healy; and finally a panel discussion with former Clinton Press Secretary Dede Myers and DC factotum David Gergen The abuse heaped on Cheney was absolutey unrelenting.
And as soon as Christie exited stage right, he was replaced by the puerile Bill Maher, who in 2000 didn't find even Al Gore sufficiently left to suit his tastes, opting instead to support Ralph Nader.
Maher claimed that the handling of the incident was emblematic of the Bush administration's approach to every issue: "screw something up, lie about it and blame the victim." Matthews was so eager to join the hate fest that eventually Maher himself had to stop him: "Chris, you don't have to convince me that Cheney is a bad guy."
The apotheosis of vitriol came from Matthews himself when, in discussing Cheney's alleged disdain for the press with Myers and Gergen Cheney's, asked:
"Does he hate the President too?"
With no positive agenda or constructive proposals to offer the American people on anything from Iraq to Social Security, Democrats and their MSM echo chamber have fastened on the shooting incident like a starving dog on a bone.
"Does Cheney hate the President TOO"....proving that he DOES hate the President...case closed.
Am watching Hannity and Colmes...and Susan Estrich made an appearance...
I think her face lift disappeared...she looked the same as before...IMHO!!
BTW...if you watched, did you catch the slam that Kate O'Beirne took at Colmes???
I should have made it clearer that Matthews was asking whether Cheney hates the president in addition to hating the press.
If you watched Brit's show...he made a point of saying that his e-mail...and even acquaintences opinions are overwhelmingly ...negative against the PRESS...not Cheney's actions or lack of having a presser.
NO. But, Chrissy, check out your ratings -- no one likes YOU.
LOL>...oh, well.....and why wouldn't Cheney, Rove, Bush, Libby, Laura, Lynn, Condi, Rummy...any of them, NOT hate the press???
I taped to a watched it later and I did hear that
Talking about the beloved best friend of man, the mention of a dog rings a bell (pun). It was Pavlov, the Russian scientist who conducted these experiments. He conditioned dogs to salivate -first though, he fed them meat. Then he rang a bell. Lo and behold, the very animals salivated-. Later, even though no meat was fed them, they still salivated,on the bell being rung.
The main stream press salivate. They salivate to order, even though there is no real meat. Could their master/s be as a Pavlov?.
They do not care about the human aspect. A man hurt and his friend mortified- something that could happen to anyone.
Oops, slippage. My advice...stick wih what God gives you. LOL. No, I didn't watch. Needed a break.
LOL...re Estrich.
I don't blame you for taking a break...I didn't get to watch TV today...so I am making up for lost time..
So is it any surprize that Chris Matthews is leading the charge for the continuing tantrum from the media??
Worth repeating.
Asking a rat-hack like Shrum to do that is akin to asking water to divorce itself of wet.
Wish I had included that in the original post - a classic!
I agree, YaYa. It's so hard to watch that Chrissie person...
Hey, governs, are you doing a ping list on Chrissie? If so, I would really like it if you could put me on it.
Going to bed now...Night all.
Hi meema. I only have one list. I call it the Today Show list, but send members all my stuff, which includes everything from Hardball, to Fox & Friends Weekend [Ellen Ratner and Julian Phillips are favorite foils] to who knows what else.
Governs
May I be first in line to place a pie in Chris Spitball's face?
You know ....... in a way, he's sort of a waste. He's clearly one of the smarter ones on the other side, like Tim Potatohead Russert. It's such a waste that they spend all their time creating disinformation.
New show idea - Matthews, Maher $ Shrum - they can call it My Three Losers...of course they couldn't find a set big enough to fit their egos.
Good morning, governs. That sounds real good. Please put me on your ping list.
I wouild like to keep up on all those! Today Show list would be great!
