A dead man has no Liberties other than to rot.
Silly rhetoric is not an argument.
BTW, the Senate majority will only be jeopardized if the pubbies don't govern as conservatives. If they go limp wristed on us, they will get tossed. The nation wants strong conservatives, not wimps.
I will withhold judgment on the new Supremes until we see how they rule, though I will agree that they wouldn't be on the bench with the Dems in charge.
Can you tell me that you are pleased with this Senate? The House? This GOP? Not compared to how bad things could be under dem leadership, but compared to the conservative values that we voted for and the Constitution. Are you pleased? Why or why not?
I don't know anyone on the list well enough to make a call. I know some, but don't think they have a chance. I know some but would never vote for them.
If "globalist" means one who believes the earth is a globe then Bush is guilty of being a globalist. If it means he is working to obtain control of the world for some super secret society then only idiots believe that. If it means he would subordinate our National Interest to a World Government then only those who are deaf, dumb, blind AND stupid would believe that.
Belief in Free Trade is not "globalism" but the understanding of all who have studied economic theory. Nor is making treaties with other nations to implement such a policy "globalist." They have been done since 1796.
It is also false that he refuses to "protect" the border. Those who have an excessive concern about it simply do not understand the magnitude of the costs and requirements of closing it. They are living in a dream world were rhetoric overrules rationality.
Those who are so concerned about the border issue should wholeheartedly support the making of agreements which would help the economies of this hemisphere. Only if that is done will there be any lessening of the desire to come North. It is precisely the lack of growing economies which forces people to come here.
Yet there appears NO understanding of this simple fact among those in a state of hysteria about Mexicans.
"I have a dream..." wait "can't we all just get along..." wait "ask not what you can do..." wait "ah hell..."
Some things are hard to overcome.
I believe the GOP contains several candidates who can win in 2008. None of them should be attacked vicously and all have good points (even McCain.) We will just have to see how it all works out and keep trying to push the electorate to the Right. Not an easy job considering that almost every major institution is pushing the opposite direction.
Mike Pence
Dick Cheney.
Just because it would give the White House Press Corps something more to cry about. Miserable whining babies!
Your word, not mine. I said "true" conservative, as in "real", not perfect....as in Reagan.....as in as close as we're going to find....as in best qualified to stand for what conservatives believe in......not wishy washy, go with the flow, stand for nothing, spineless RINO's which are so ever abundant in the GOP leadership now.
Check Reagan's elect and reelect numbers to see that you are simply wrong.
Articulated conservative principles are winners if the candidate has a credible record of governing or voting the same way that he campaigns.
If the candidate isn't trusted, his words simply don't matter.
And too many good men have died for our liberty to surrender it as easily as you would.
I never expected to always be safe or to live forever, but I intend to be free until I die.
Shame on you for dismissing the council of our Founders as mere rhetoric.
"A "token" candidate? Where on earth does that come from?"
It comes from the very fact that those touting this never-elected foreign policy expert and SectyofState bring up that she is black female - and then make the absurd claim that the only reason to oppose her is those same gender/race 'qualifications'. In my book, they matter not a wit, and it's grossly unfair to accuse skeptics like me of such a thing.
Now as to her real qualifications:
"If you want to know where Condi's views are - it's easy enough to find out. The woman has written several books and numerous articles."
So has Brent Scowcroft, but nobody's floating his name.
I'd grant that she is a foreign policy expert, but she is known to be non-conservative on some issues and is a complete unknown on many others.
"The litmus test for who would make a good President should not be where do they stand on abortion - but where do they stand on protecting our nation from terrorism. I believe Dr. Rice has made her intentions quite clear in that area."
I dont believe in any 'litmus test' but someone who is good on one issue, like GWOT, is not necessarily a good Republican candidate. Even Joe Lieberman is good on GWOT issues, but he's a dyed-in-wool liberal Democrat.
Where is Condi on immigration, life, govt spending, affirmative action and 'diversity' quotas, supreme court nominations, earmarks, eminent domain, farm subsidies, energy policy, drilling in ANWR, tariffs, taxation policy? Will she push for a line item veto and be a fiscal conservative? Can she push back on Democrat demagoguery?
"You claim that Condi is too "Arabist" to do any good with the War on Terror! "
Yes, 'Arabist' is too harsh on her, although not on her mentor Scowcroft. Condi has been good on many things and is a good Secty of State, but she is sticking to the same failed script of State Dept diplomacy on the Israeli-Palestinian question and shows no sign of going outside the box: She pushed for Palestinian elections that gave us Hamas, and pushed for rights of passage for Palestinians that created no momentum for Palestinian concessions... see for example:
http://www.nationalreview.com/comment/singer200511170902.asp
We are actually going backwards on Palestine - after almost a billion dollars in US and EU aid, that rump state is more radicalized, hateful of Israel and violent as ever. I believe that this is a consequence of failed State Dept thinking and policies that she has done little to change.
That issue plus the many unknown positions *plus* the obvious fact that she has no interest in the position leave me befuddled by the attention given to the possibility.
It's not going to happen, and is the kind of novelty idea that may pan out or may go sour quickly.
"There is no way a far rightist will win election. Did the last two elections not clearly show that the far Right does not elect presidents. Bush was the far to the right of any candidate in the last 40 yrs including Reagan and he barely won."
ROFLMAO!
The most conservative President in our lifetimes was Reagan.
Reagan beat Carter by 8 points and Mondale by almost 20 points!!
These were the widest victories for Republicans since Nixon's wipeout of McGovern.
"Americans simply are not so conservative that a Pence, Tancredo, would have a chance."
Pence is a Reagan Conservative Republican. If Reagan can do it, so can Pence - assuming Pence has the stage presence that Reagan had.
Are you just throwing around quotes to feel smart or are you saying that I don't deserve to live unless it's in a prison just because I like Guiliani? You sound a little extreme.
