Not Even Funerals Are Sacred to Liberals
GOPUSA/The Loft ^ | Feburary 8, 2006 | Bobby Eberle

At the funeral of Coretta Scott King, President Bush said her dignity was a “daily rebuke to the pettiness and cruelty of segregation.” The president, with class and compassion, spoke at New Birth Missionary Church in Atlanta, Georgia, to honor the wife of civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unfortunately, there were others who spoke and turned what should be a sacred ceremony into an opportunity to engage in left-wing attacks.

As noted in the story Political Posturing at King Funeral Draws Cheers, Jeers, liberal activists used the funeral of Coretta Scott King to demean President Bush and attack the Republican Party. In a setting that should have brought people together, so-called leaders such as former President Jimmy Carter and Rev. Joseph Lowery chose instead to engage in racial politics and left-wing talking points.

Stoking anger about the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, former President Carter said, “The struggle for equal rights is not over. We only have to recall the color of the faces of those in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi, those who were most devastated by Katrina, to know that there are not yet equal opportunities for all Americans.”

Carter also alluded to President Bush’s current NSA surveillance program but noting the “’secret government wiretapping’ of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. many years ago.”

Carter failed to mention that the wiretapping of the Rev. King was ordered by then Attorney General Bobby Kennedy.

Rev. Joseph Lowery felt it appropriate to focus on Iraq during Mrs. King’s funeral. In his comments he said, “She deplored the terror inflicted by our smart bombs on missions way afar. We know now that there were no weapons of mass destruction over there, but Coretta knew, and we know, that there are weapons of misdirection right down here.”

The antics bring back memories of the funeral of the late Minnesota Sen. Paul Wellstone. During that funeral in 2002, which was held just prior to the November elections, Democrats such as Harry Reid turned the solemn event into a left-wing political rally.

Reid said during his comments, “The people of Minnesota are going to have to decide who they want to represent them in the United States Senate, whether they want someone who has the legacy of a Hubert Humphrey and a Paul Wellstone or whether they want somebody that is conducting polls while somebody is taken out of the woods, having been killed in a plane crash.”

President Bush left politics out of the ceremony and, instead, focused on honoring the Mrs. King for her strength and achievements.

In that life, Coretta Scott King knew danger. She knew injustice. She knew sudden and terrible grief. She also knew that her Redeemer lives. She trusted in the name above every name. And today we trust that our sister Coretta is on the other shore — at peace, at rest, at home.

There is a time and place for politics, and there is a time and place for honoring loved-ones as the pass from this world. Funerals are not political rallies, and the comments from the likes of Carter only provide further evidence that the left knows no bounds from which to attack.

The Classless ex-presidents and others once again displayed their rudeness to the bereaved and to the world watching the celebration of Coretta Scott King just as they did at the Paul Wellstone memorial. The lack of manners shown by these people is appalling and down right insulting to the nation and to the world. You would think anyone elected to the highest office in the land would assume the mantel of Statesman and Gentleman; you could never accuse Carter or Clinton of that.

Jimmy Carter---undoubtedly and demonstrably the most inept president of the last 50 years---should be home praying for a happy death.

As for Joseph Lowery---his comments are but new evidence of the absolute classlessness of the poverty pimps who populate the so-called "civil rights" movement.

Let the liberals keep shoving their collective feet down their throats. Especially in public venues like Mrs. King's funeral.

The whole Coretta Scott King funeral is proof that Dems feel the need to keep blacks on the plantation. ("If we can only scare them. They will be too afraid to leave")

But many are now discovering the Republican Underground Railroad.

It seems the Democratic Party, for the most part, think they can say anything about Republicans and conservatives and the American people will swallow it. The only ones swallowing it are the extreme liberal side of their party. I hope they keep it up, this will hurt them in November.

In the rat's small mind, EVERYTHING is political. NOTHING is more important than his regaining power.

But as ugly as the display was, it still helps us.
It gives ammunition to Black conservatives who are working to open the eyes of other Blacks. Anyone with a brain bigger than a pea could see that the cause of convincing people that the rat is a swine has been well served.

FWIW....I posted this on another thread.

A remarkable element of this is that we as a society like to remember Dr. King as a man of conciliation "among all people, regardless of their race, color or creed". Yet, at his wife's funeral, Lowery and Carter can trample that memory with their bombastic, divisive rhetoric. What a shame.

Dadgummit. Opportunity in America isn't bestowed, it is earned. That's why our country has the biggest GDP in the history of the world, and not because we made equal opportunity available to everyone in America. Opportunity comes to those who want it.

Thank you, Jimmah Carter. You sir, have no honor. You also possess the most twisted view of the US I have ever heard. Please do the rest of us a favor - go to your room and shut the door. Oh yes, and good luck on your 21st book. I'm sure it will be a real page-turner.

The liberals are using one of the last soap boxes - funerals - available to them. The MSM is ineffective anymore, thanks to the pajamadene.

"Carter failed to mention that the wiretapping of the Rev. King was ordered by then Attorney General Bobby Kennedy."
He also failed to mention that MLK was a communist and an unfaithful husband to Coretta. (He liked his women white and dressed up as nurses, according to the FBI tapes of his motel rooms).

So typical of these punks. They always run from honest debate, preferring instead to insinuate their propaganda in venues where they know they won't be challenged. Their favorite tactic is to take advantage of situations where "no one's allowed to talk politics", with the unwritten exception, of course, that they themselves are always allowed to.

So why then if it's only extremist do they get 48% of the vote? The whole democrate party is a total loser & anyone who would place their vote with them is a loser.

I am starting to think that there is not much difference between the 9th century Islamic fundamentalists who use religion as a weapon and the liberals who use partisan politics - even at a funeral - as a religion. Both are uncivilized.
