MOSCOW [MENL] -- Iran has quietly acquired three fighter-jets from Russia.
Russian industry sources said Teheran has procured three Su-25UBT twin-seat attack aircraft from Moscow. The sources said the contract was concluded in 2005 and deliveries would take place in 2006.
The deal marked the first Iranian purchase of the Su-25. In 2001, Iran negotiated with Georgia for surplus MiG-25s, but the two countries failed to reach agreement.
The sources said the Su-25UBT marked the most advanced model of the attack aircraft. They said the fighters received new electronic warfare and jamming systems.

and/or drugs.
sniff, sniff
And how many f-117's & B-2's did we lose in Iraq which had far superior junk.
"Whooa...wait just a minute. Russian equipment is far from garbage. The AK-47 for example is the most successful assault rifle ever in use. Russian fighter jets are excellent and just as capable as the American equivalent, minus much of the high speed technology."
The MiG 21 during the Vietnam era was an example of that, one of the best fighter aircraft ever designed. I agree with another poster, the aircraft will be reverse engineered.
Where are the Putinists? I am quite sure that they would have something to say.
A nice addition to the Russian fighter jets delivered by Iraq in Gulfwar I.
In before zot.
I think they should keep buying repackaged Soviet era technology.
Really?
The so called insurgents are losing, and they know it.
Welcome to FR.
I'm in denial that the Su-25 is a close-air support plane? Better explain that to the Russian air force - they seem to be in denial too, in that case.
LOL!
You are part correct and part not. The Serbs did an excellent job at using decoys and other tactics to foil our bombing campaign of the Serb Army in Kosovo, and out of fear of losses, we did fly and bomb at high altitude. Because of this, we were never alble to bring the Serb ground forces into submission. But, even at high altitude, our Air Force is very lethal against fix strategic targets.
Yugoslavia lost because NATO was able to strike fixed strategic sites inside Yugoslavia proper and destroy critical infrastructure. We brought enough "pain" to the Serb people and political leadership that they cried "uncle." We flew out of range of the enemies anti aircraft systems and began chipping away at critical targets that couldn't be moved, disguised, etc until it was to much for the Serbs to bear.
The Iranians already had Su-25s in their inventory. They started their Su-25 inventory when the Iraqis flew them for safe keeping to Iran back in 1991. The Iranians kept all of the aircraft flown to sanctuary in Iran. The Iranians already increased their fleet of Su-25s (from 7 Iraqi airframes) with an order from Russia in 2003 for two seat combat capabale Su-25s. This would have taken them up to about 10. This news source is probably mixing up the previous order from Russia.
It is not the Iranian Air Force that operate these Su-25s. It is the mad nutjob Iranian Revolutionary Guards Air Force.
