MOSCOW [MENL] -- Iran has quietly acquired three fighter-jets from Russia.
Russian industry sources said Teheran has procured three Su-25UBT twin-seat attack aircraft from Moscow. The sources said the contract was concluded in 2005 and deliveries would take place in 2006.
The deal marked the first Iranian purchase of the Su-25. In 2001, Iran negotiated with Georgia for surplus MiG-25s, but the two countries failed to reach agreement.
The sources said the Su-25UBT marked the most advanced model of the attack aircraft. They said the fighters received new electronic warfare and jamming systems.

they wont make it that far, because they wont see us coming. :)
Hey Ahmadinejad;
They won't do you a bit of good.
You might as well have bought a couple dozen HAMS for each person in your country.... Wouldn't have been any more of a waste of money.
You can take Putin out of the Communist Party, but you can't take the Communist Party out of Putin
True!
I agree with your post, AND your tagline.
Whooa...wait just a minute. Russian equipment is far from garbage. The AK-47 for example is the most successful assault rifle ever in use. Russian fighter jets are excellent and just as capable as the American equivalent, minus much of the high speed technology.
The Frogfoot is a very capable attack platform.
Yep! That is the problem. No matter what oratory is being done. The western world should punish everybody that is selling anything but beans to this crazy regime.
agreed, russian combat aircraft are quite excellent. but of what use are three of a type to anyone? these have to be demonstrator models, to see if iran likes them. then iran will buy many more. frogfoot is a groud attack platform, not much threat to our inventory.
A-9 Wannabe
I wonder why Pentagon selected A-10 Thunderbolt II instead of Northrop YA-9. If the USSR version of A-9 could fly off the aircraft carrier, then it sounds like A-9 could have done so too. It would be interesting to have a ground support A-9 scrambling from an aircraft, assisting to ground force to make a touch down on the beach.
The A-10 was built around the the 30mm Gatling as it's primary weapon for tank busting. Survivable, as evidenced in Gulf 1, the Warthog has proven it's mettle in every way it was intended and more the ever envisioned.
Do you have any idea how many foreign military are here in the U.S. going through military training?
They are here learning everything from communications to how to use tanks, artillery, fly jets and everything else.
Now we stopped training Irans military years ago but they still can be trained by others. Maybe not as well as they mey be at Pennsacola or Miramar but they still get training.
We prefer to call them................."target practice".
Except that back when the YA-9/A-10 were in development, in the early '70's, the Navy already had a capable attack/close air support platform in the A-6. I don't think the YA-9 was originally designed for carrier operations anyway.
>>One would think that high-tech aircraft need highly trained pilots.<<
Exactly! Our Air Force and Navy pilots will wipe the floor with their asses.
The A-10 was a better design that's why it was picked and the Su-25 was not designed to operate from a carrier.
The Iranians have managed to keep some of their F-14 Tomcats going ... I don't think we've been helping them with spares or advice.
