MOSCOW [MENL] -- Iran has quietly acquired three fighter-jets from Russia.

Russian industry sources said Teheran has procured three Su-25UBT twin-seat attack aircraft from Moscow. The sources said the contract was concluded in 2005 and deliveries would take place in 2006.

The deal marked the first Iranian purchase of the Su-25. In 2001, Iran negotiated with Georgia for surplus MiG-25s, but the two countries failed to reach agreement.

The sources said the Su-25UBT marked the most advanced model of the attack aircraft. They said the fighters received new electronic warfare and jamming systems.

Don't worry, if these jets are like most Russian equipment they're total garbage.

One would think that high-tech aircraft need highly trained pilots.

Like any other aircraft that could be sold to Iran they won't be of any use as smoldering ash on some cratered runway.

those "advanced" soviet aircraft will never maintain their operational readiness without regular maintenance . . . I wonder if they have made arrangements for that.

Good when we send the B-2's, F-117's, F-22's and cruise missiles we can target the hangers along with the regime and nuclear facilities. :)

Su-25 isn't a fighter, per se - it's an attack aircraft, along the lines of an A-10, only somewhat faster than the A-10. Hate to try to fly one against a real air-to-air dogfighter.

I'd sure like to know the EXACT date that this contract with Russia was concluded. I'm not into wearing tinfoil, but I still don't trust Russia.

This isnt for their pilots. They have their own stealth wannabe program.

Iran is going to nuke Haifa and then have their asses handed to them precipitating WW3.

WW3 will be short. NY will be hit. Paris. London. Moscow.

Patience will end and glass will spread across the caliphate.

It really doesn't matter how good these jets are when the Iranians only have three of them. They would be destroyed quickly if deployed against several U.S. jets.

These planes are not for flying... they are for benchmarking for their engineers.

Those Su-25UBT's will be very formidable right up until they leave the runway

This Russia-Iran connection lately is more like 'will work for food' where the 'sucker' is actually Russia.

Call me a heretic if you want but Iran (muslim nutbags) has plans to take over Russia before they will attack Israel or the US.
