LIVE THREAD: SJC hearing on the NSA surveilance program - C-span 1; 9:30 am EST

Posted on 02/06/2006 6:08:53 AM PST by ken5050

Good Monday morning, once again, fellow political jinkies. The NFL season may be over, but the political season inside the Beltway is 24/7/365. So join us, if you can, as those wacky Dems on the Senate Judiciary committee reprise their pitiful efforts to once again smear President Bush and score political points..

Feingold asking why witness won't be sworn.

Specter says the AG's have appeared for many years before committee and there might be a time to warrant swearing in.

Feingold: Certain statements made under oath at his confirmation so he should be sworn in.

Leahy: AG was sworn in under another occasion; when he and Meuller appeared before this committee.

Leahy: I remember Republicans insisting that AG Reno be sworn in for occasions other than her confirmation.

What's the big deal on swearing in? Is it just a power struggle?

Feingold and Leahy want Gonzales sworn in, testimony under oath, that is. "Swear or not" will be a short battle. I'm sure Gonzales cares not, either way.
