FReeper Canteen ~ Military Short Speak ~ Feb. 6, 2006
(Thanks Bro!) | Sweet Polly Purebread

Posted on 02/05/2006 6:58:31 PM PST by StarCMC

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT
Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies military and the family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.

********

That's right - the Canteen mission
Support the troops and all they do
They've given up so much
All for me and you

There are so many here
Who keep the aim sure and true
They support the troops
And have lots of fun too

We dance and play
And spin on our toes
A turn of phrase
A joke or some prose

All for the troops
Who visit and  bask
Looking for a friend
A break from their task

So thanks to my friends
You know who you are
This army sister's brother
Is home from the war

You made my life easy
You taught me some things
You brought me such peace
You gave me wings

I'll always hold dear
The ones who have cared
Who gave me their true friendship
Thank you FReeper Canteen.

What is an initialism? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words, but each letter is spoken separately.

What is Short Speak? It is any and all of the above.

Want to know what  they are talking about?  Read on...

Retreat

A bugle call sounded when the U. S. flag is being lowered at the end of the day.
Retriever
A special tank designed as a sort of "wrecker" for tanks. What they are able to do is almost a miracle.

retro  retrofit

REU  remote emitter unit

Reveille

A signal to awaken, get out of bed and begin the day. Often a bugle call, in boot camp more often the yells and screams of Drill Instructors and the sounds of GI cans crashing to the deck.

Please remember: the Canteen is a place to honor and entertain our troops.
As such we attempt to keep it MOSTLY apolitical.
Thanks for playing and have a nice day!  LOL!!!

Good morning, Jinxie. Hi Nana

Thanks for the Woo Hoo.

It's been a while since I managed to be here long enough to snag one. I'll have to give everyone some competition this week.

THE CROSSES GROW ON ANZIO

Oh, gather 'round me, comrades;
and listen while I speak
Of a war, a war, a war
where hell is six feet deep.
Along the shore,
the cannons roar.
Oh how can a soldier sleep?
The going's slow on Anzio.
And hell is six feet deep.

Praise be to God
for this captured sod
that rich with blood does seep.
With yours and mine,
like butchered swine's;
and hell is six feet deep.
That death awaits
there's no debate;
no triumph will we reap.
The crosses grow on Anzio,
where hell is six feet deep.

. . . Audie Murphy, 1948

Good to see your smiling good morning again!

Looks like it's time to get breakfast ready for Nana...she's just lovin' this, being waited on hand and foot...!!

Well, not really, since it means she can't do things for herself, but...we're getting there!
