The very first vote I ever cast was for Ronald Reagan for president. What a joy it was to have such a great man as the leader of this great country. Sigh.

Thanks! Prez Reagan and our now Prez Bush are the only two men that can get me out of my chair cheering. Love them both even if there were issues I disagreed with them about.

I had a wonderful friend who worked in the Reagan White House. Kai and President Reagan shared the same Feb. 6 birthday. She told me he always made sure she had a cake on their mutual birthday.

Her home was filled with wonderful autographed photographs of her and her husband with the President and First Lady.
Sadly, Kai (although much younger) died less than a year after President Reagan.

I like to think of them sharing a birthday cake in Heaven.

Thank you for the reminder. I will remember to say a few prayers for President Reagan, one of my greatest heroes. I am not likely to see another president like him in my life time and I miss him dearly.

Future generations will not believe that a person such as this ever really existed.

A simple man who actually said what he believed. A man of such intense greatness....and yet such human failures.

Who understood that you do not achieve peace....unless you are willing to go to war. Who understood that you do not give in to those who would destroy you...but you challenge them to keep up...and when those enemies are on the brink of disaster...you allow them breathing space in order for them to change.

A man who kept his eye on the prize...."..that shining city on the hill."

A man who (after the depression of the American soul that came during the Carter years)...spoke softly and plainly to us....and helped us to be proud and hopeful once again.

Happy Birthday Mr. President.

A tearjerker, Julie. How lucky of your friend to have her birthday on the same date as President Reagan's (and vice versa).

I'm sure they're sharing that cake at this very moment, maybe with a little champagne.

I just had a thought that in my lifetime, both Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush brought "hope" into the Whitehouse. They ran with a promise of an America that "could do better".

"Accent the positive" of the American Spirit seems to be a winning strategy.
