Reuters Additional Information
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Police at the U.S. Capitol arrested anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan on Tuesday, shortly before President Bush was to give his annual State of the Union speech, a police spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman, Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, said she had no immediate details.
Sheehan had been invited to be a guest at the address to a joint session of Congress by U.S. Rep. Lynn Woolsey, a California Democrat.
Sheehan, who became a central figure for the U.S. anti-war movement after her soldier son Casey was killed in the Iraq war, won wide attention with an anti-war vigil outside Bush's Texas ranch.
CNN said Sheehan was arrested after unveiling a banner and was being held on Capitol Hill for about an hour, which would keep her away from the address, which was set to start at 9 p.m. EST.
Sheehan and other activists were arrested in September for protesting outside the White House without a permit, a misdemeanor that carriers a $50 fine.

A newsroom type shares notes:
This from Sgt. Kimberly Schneider of U-S Capitol Police.... Cindy Sheehan was arrested in the gallery of the house floor tonight and charged with demonstrating in the Capitol--a misdemeanor. ...Sgt. Schneider says she was wearing a T-shirt with a slogan on it and was asked to cover it up. Sheehan did not cover it up and she was arrested. ....She is being processed at Capital Police hd and is expected to be released at some point tonight. The misdemeanor charge carries one year in jail. .."
The misdemeanor charge carries one year in jail.
OK, a year is better than nothin,
Damn right she is not bright. She had a chance to make a scene on national TV during the State of the Union Address and blew her wad too early and thus never got the chance.
She will moan about this blown chance for the rest of her life, much more than she will ever mourn the loss of her son.
Sarcasm ping! ROFLOL!
Impressive perhaps, if you are in fourth grade.
IMO, the Nazis of the later 30's were much smarter. This current batch of Nazis has their "feeling center" on 100% overdrive, but the "logic center" is shorted out.
Wearing a cheesy t-shirt to the State of the Union address--real class act.
The Drama Queen was given her ticket by Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D,CA). I have emailed Speaker Hastert asking for an investigation. Rep. Woolsey obviously conspired with Sheehan to disrupt the State of the Union Address, and to possibly threaten the President. Rep. Woolsey should be made aware of the America's displeasure with her unlawful conspiracy.
I'm SHOCKED! Liberals never do that! Er...Hmmmm.
Then Tim Russert admonished all of us that she had 'earned' the right to do such by offering up her son.
This is how they think.
Oh really?
The vote on MSNBC is 49% in favor of her being arrested to 51% against the arrest.
Let us change that. Go to http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11120353/ and vote like it is and should be!
I used to think she was just a nut...misguided old Leftist. I've changed my mind...it's not about her honored son, it's just about her. She isn't being manipulated by the Left, she is an active, knowing participant in blatant self-hating, anti-American campaign sponsored by all the usual suspects.
Living close to Crawford, I went to support the President last Summer. I was mildly curious about the Sheehanites. Now, after her active anti-American stunts, domestically and internationally, I hate her and all her allies.
You can bet that this Army retiree and Republican will be among the loudest counter-protesters when Her Majesty once again darkens the streets of Crawford.
Where did THAT come from?
Thank you. Scream at the bitch for me too.
I like it!
