I love this guy, too, but...my brain tells me he could man the veto threat a little more, and stand with folded arms before the sluttish congress and say: "No, this isn't quite right yet, cut a little more". Forget the line-item veto, just watch the whole thing bounce back and say: "Bill Frist: we're gonna need a funded budget. Could you keep them all a little later this week?". Brain also says anything spent in New Orleans is draining down a sinkhole. City below sea-level is a cup half-filled, or half-empty, but same difference to me and my own. It means my wallet is being emptied for welfarists.

Kristol whining, saying conservatives won't be happy with the speech That's why these talking head conservatives do us no good...they have no idea why Bush was elected or what inspired one of the largest grassroots efforts in history. I've had a bunch of calls from friends who volunteered with me on the Bush campaign and they loved the speech.
