Good morning, all.
Join us today for the final victory lap, the vote to "confirm Samuel Alito, of New Jersey, to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court."
It's all over except the final vote tally.
Lots of surprises yesterday at the HUGE vote to impose cloture, so perhaps there are still some surprise votes to come?
NOW they get it.
Yea, and the media was spouted off just a few months ago how President Bush was tettering on becoming a lame duck President - QUACK, QUACK!
I agree.
I definitely believe in choice - but it occurs before a baby is made - it is just a bit of trouble. But if convenience of the mother is so important, you would think she would be willing to use any of the many birth control options.
Mistakes happen, but the baby should not have to pay for them.
Can you tell me how Bayh voted? Thanks
YES!
24 was TREMENDOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!
so far this is a GREAT WEEK! and it only TUESDAY!
I know... I was ticked off at Fox News for that also! Checked CNN, MSNBC (no coverage of the Alito vote as far as I could see) and CSPAN. No one was covering Hatch's speech. Damn... I really wanted to hear what he was saying.
Bayh voted NO.
Democrats are having an awful time of it, aren't they? My heart bleeds for them. har.
start it..I'm done..next time I do a live thread is for the replacement for Stevens...
I see it this way:
Dems voted for cloture to appeal to the moderates in the Democrat party, then voted against Alito on the floor vote to try to appease the left-wing kooks in the party. The thing is, the kooks will not find this acceptable.
"The only clinton who ever lived in their NY home was Buddy and he is dead"
Poor Buddy must have known waayyyy too much.
Come on, boy!! Let's go to Fort Marcy for a walk
I'm not starting it. I am over my quota of pulled threads for the year and its only January.
And yet...he has once again showed that he isn't a lame duck. He will leave his mark on the country for generations to come, and have no doubt he will go down in the history books as one of the greatest presidents ever (along with Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Reagan).
and another:
Guys like Alito are absolutely enamoured with legislative intent, with the Legislature deciding law. If we want to have a progressive society, we have to elect legislatures and executives to do so. If we cannot, then we will have to move or accept that this is a predominantly center-right country and try to carve out progressive enclaves within it.
From your lips to God's ears, Ken.
Great work, thanks!
Isn't that the truth.
What you say makes sense.
Thanks for starting this thread for us.
Another great day for our side.
I know nothing about Justice Stevens. However, Ginzy is apparently not in the greatest health physically and was depressed where the court was going this summer, before Roberts and Alioto were confirmed. One can only imagine how depressed she is today.
A couple we know, have a daughter who passed her bar exam last summer and started working for Ginzy. The couple had a party for her and her finance who has been clerking for Ginzy.
Needless to say, my wife and I weren't invited the party. However, friends who went said that both the young woman and her future husband were very concerned about Ginzy sticking it out until the Evil Bush is gone.
The rhetorical question is
If it is a takeover, who or what was in charge of it before?
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr what a loser he is.
