From DiFi's office:
Senator Feinstein to Vote No on Cloture for the Nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court
Washington, DC U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today announced that she will vote no on cloture regarding the nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr. to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.
Based on a very long and thoughtful analysis of the record and transcript, which I tried to indicate in my floor statement yesterday, Ive decided that I will vote no on cloture.
They don't know what the heck they are doing down there it sounds like.
I agree with Howlin. That's exactly what happened. These idiots take their marching orders from the Times.
With regard to the Times, there's no reason why a person who calls themselves conservative should buy this thing.
Which incumbent Republican Senators do you expect to lose their seats in the 2006 elections?
DRAT!!!
This makes for a sensible equation even more so than you conveyed.
And when the next president that has a D after his name nominates an unpopular (unlike Alito) candidate and polls say so, they'll make the "it's not a political office" argument as reason to ignore the polls.
And when the Republicans threaten filibuster the "mean-spirited" and "obstructionist" labels will be flying wild in the MSM.
lurking on DU (they are really putting the heat on senators):

Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) plans to vote yes...now taking TALLY!
Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 04:54 PM by Wordie
His office is taking a tally of support/oppose Alito calls. Call NOW!
Ben Nelson (D-NE) 202-224-6551
You can also use these toll-free numbers (and ask for the Senators by name): 888-355-3588 or 888-818-6641.
Don't even take the time to explain WHY, just tell them that you think he should oppose Alito and support the filibuster. Be quick, so other calls can get through.
Please keep this kicked while Senate offices are open!
Democrats and Republicans alike said the 55-year-old conservative jurist will get more than the 60 votes need to cut off debate on the Senate floor Monday."Everyone knows there are not enough votes to support a filibuster," Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada said Friday. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., said the same thing on Thursday. "A bipartisan majority will vote to confirm Judge Alito as Justice Alito," Frist said.
No .. which makes this announcment nothing but a PR stunt
I hope not, but he is a newbie in the Senate, and I don't know how much he will stand up to the leadership
also even though he ran as a moderate, I think he leans considerable more leftward than he lets on.
If we go nuclear on Monday just for the heck of it despite the cloture motion succeeding, it would be considered an abuse of power by the moderates.
We would not have the gang of 14 with us.
NOW, if the world turns upside down in the next couple days and cloture fails on Monday and the filibuster is on, gang of 14 members, at least two or so have already said they would vote for the nuclear option in that situation.
I hope you're right. As a Florida citizen, I can't wait for him to get out of office.
thanks....
Chafee, hopefully.
Burns, if that senile old fool doesn't have the good sense to retire.
Then you have the open seat in Tennessee, DeWine, and who knows where else.
Look, anyone who thinks Liddy Dole-the worst NRSC chairman we've ever had-is going to outfox Charles Schumer-a person who does not exist apart from politics-you're dreaming.
Like I said, a best case scenario is that we break even.
More likely we lose one or two seats.
As I understand it, he has to wait for a failed cloture vote in order to "Go Nuclear" and I have no doubt that he will do it if they attempt the filibuster.
The Rats can only save the filibuster by not using it. I think that in the end they will choose to save the filibuster for the next nominee when they might have better odds.
When we had 80,000 we did quite a bit in the 2000 election.
How many members does FR have now anyway?
I wouldn't be surprised to see Conrad, Dorgan, and Landrieu from your list end up being crossover votes for Alito too.
Do you know if a vote against Alito would hurt Menendez? He is running being in the polls right now isn't he?
yes on cloture, yes on a filibuster, yes on Alito....what is he voting yes on?
