I don't trust Lott; he's a petty little power monger. I won't ever forget this:

"Lott also stated that he won't accept criticism from Republicans for working with Democratic senators because "they're the same ones who threw me overboard. I'm free. I don't have to work with them anymore." Lott called the Senate a "dysfunctional institution."

I think there was talk/predictions of a filibuster and Judge Alito not being confirmed just a few days ago also.... I really doubt that many people have access to all the behind the seens activity and even less when it gets downstream of D.C.

"Mr. President, was it necessary to ..and upset Mrs. Alito (can't now remember the exact wording now .. LOL) .. under the glare of the klieg lights?"

Oh, beside that "Mr. President" refers to the chair in the Senate, I think this criticism was directed at the media. The trasncript will show it, but Byrd's critical points are correct, even though he lays blame equally (it shouldn't be), and even though he blames no individuals (he should).

But as for a fairly comprehensive critique of not only the nominationa and confirmation process, but also the compormises of separation of powers, Byrd has a crafted an outstanding speech.

None of the flambouyant "Hear me!" or other phrases he is known for, this is a straight-up talk, and I am convinced, it comes from his heart.

Well, as I said, it is Common Tator's theory, and I was simply putting it up for consideration and comment.

For all I know, McConnell could be running everything behind the scenes, in preparation for when he runs for leader in January of next year.

As I said, I don't care as long as things get done. I don't want the old Lott, however. I want the Lott who has learned his lesson.

We will know soon enough. It's up to the senators, after all.

Quite right deport. Most of what we read in simply speculation. Anyone who has cut deals isn't going to announce them, anyway.

All we can do is watch. The senators know how we feel about confirming Alito. Whatever arm-twisting and compromises are done will be unseen.

It really pains me to say this .. but Bryd did good

LOL. I really enjoy Byrd. Some of his talks are funny, but he is a smart guy.

Just now is the first time I listened carefully to his speech of today. He made some really good points that are rarely stated, these days. I detected no cliche', and no party-line. I'm looking forward to reading the transcript.

I wish he'd retired from the Senate (he's so wounded, ya know) and Bush had appointed him Hurricane Restoration Emperor for the Gulf region.

Reid doesn't want to discuss when they will vote with Spectre?

What an SOB.

Why discuss with Arlen and not Frist?

Because Frist sent Arlen to the floor to find out WHEN they are going to be done talking.

Reid was really snotty.

Plus, we have the example of GWB nominating Miers, and have a fair idea of Miers' world-view. It must comport with GWB's.

I wonder if we will ever know the entire story behind her nomination. Regardless, I think it's inaccurate to describe the President as moderate. Strategic, pragmatic and intuitive (in advancing a conservative agenda) all go further in describing him in general and the Miers nomination in particular.

LOL! Well, you pays your money and you picks your theory! HA!

As I said, all is speculation. I forgot about Tator saying there definitely would be a filibuster. All that I remembered was the part about Lott.

I am afraid I was unnerved by the thought of that cowboy hat with the feather making a reappearance.

They're stalling and they're up to something.
NYT urging them to filibister.

I am watching Hannity and Colmes...and they are doing the story about Kerry filibustering this nomination...

The blurb, though, under the story said "Sens. Kerry and EDWARDS say they will filibuster Alito"....LOL
