Debate continues in the Senate today on the nomination of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. At present no time has been announced for a final vote. Stop by and discuss.
They call Alito "Strip Search Sammy?"
What a bunch of morons.
The Senate paradigm is unlimited debate, and no voting uintil everybody is ready. Now, debate has been limited, by unanimous agreement, until Tuesday at 11:00 AM (assuming the cloture motion, voted on Monday afternoon, passes).
Frist gives ample time for debate to insure there is no way to make the straight faced argument that one's voice wasn't heard, or not enough time and information was available for careful deliberation.
Just got home and husband tells me the rats are going to pull a filibuster.
Can that be true?
Uncertain, at this point. He is phoning it in from the Economic Conference in Davos, Switzerland.
They won't. He's offering the time in trade for the agreement to cloture vote on Monday.
EXACTLY! I have to admit the DUers have been frantically working the phonelines like crazy. If we don't watch out they will succeed in convincing the Yes Democrats to vote No. I've been reading the answers they have been getting and some of them are just on the edge.
Kerry called for the filibuster from SWITZERLAND!!!
and supposedly has been making calls to other Senators...but, I haven't heard any other names of Senators that are joining him...
I would guess Kennedy...Durbin, but, we don't know yet.
118. How serious could Kerry be...
If he is in Davos? Seems like he is only calling for a filibuster, knowing that there is no hope for one, to pander to whomever is going to vote for him in 2008.
I'd like something a bit more genuine
LOUSY FREEPER TROLL! :-D
Look at me! Look at me? Isn't that what that is all about?
If it's so damn important, why isn't he here?
I don't see how they can do it. They just don't have the votes.
And if they do pull one, it will be the LAST one they pull.
Since there was unanimous consent for the cloture vote on Monday... Can there still be a filibuster ?
Just trying to understand it all
Thanks. There's just so much about politics I don't know. LOL!
I hate them all.
Absolutely HATE them.
Why isn't Kerry here? He is working the Muslim vote possibilities.
I just love it when he calls all the liberals on campus complete morons and says that they throw the word "fascist" around and don't even know what it MEANS.
U.S. Democratic Senator from Boston, John Kerry, left, and his wife Teresa Heinz-Kerry attend a plenary entitled 'Muslim Societies in the Modern World' at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Thursday Jan. 26, 2006. The second day of the World Economic Forum's annual meeting promised a blend of celebrity and brass tacks talk of the issues facing the global community, ranging from security against terror to advancing human rights and the struggle against poverty and disease. Looks like they are orgasmic over there in DUmmie land! We need to nuke them once and for all and get back to PRE-DASCHLE days on these nominations.
Sorry for the source ...

Kerry Takes Action . . . Kinda
Wonkette operatives with access to the World Wide Web have repeatedly alerted me to Sen. John Kerrys announcement that he supports a filibuster of Judge Samuel Alito, as ordered by The New York Times this morning in its Senators in Need of a Spine editorial.
The important question people are asking is what took him so long? Well, he is in Switzerland currently, so he probably just hadnt seen the paper to read his directive until this afternoon. Or, maybe spines are just cheaper there.
But really, this doesnt mean much of anything. When it becomes apparent that this is more than a cheap why didnt you vote for me? publicity stunt i.e., when he convinces enough other senators to support his effort that it matters then we can talk.
