Cops: Girl Died While Playing With Family Dog
(AP) MANORVILLE A six-year-old girl playing with her dog in the backyard was strangled - when the pet apparently grabbed her scarf and playfully pulled her down to the ground and dragged her around the yard. Suffolk County Homicide Detective Lieutenant John Fitzpatrick calls it "an absolutely tragic story."
Police say the accident happened in the backyard of little Kaitlyn Hassard at 4:30 Tuesday afternoon. The girl came home from school wearing the scarf and the dog began pulling on it. The girl's mother put the dog in the backyard and a few minutes later Kaitlyn asked to go out and play with the dog, which weighs about 70 pounds.
The one-and-a-half Golden Retriever named Jessie, again began playing with the 40-pound girl tugging on her scarf.
Lieutenant Fitzpatrick says the girl was in the yard for no more than ten minutes, because the family was going to run an errand at the Post Office. When her eleven-year-old brother went to the backyard to get his sister, he found her lying on the ground.
The boy called his mother who called 9-1-1 and began CPR. The girl was pronounced dead at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. Lieutenant Fitzpatrick says "there were no injuries inflicted by the dog." He adds "I don't believe the dog's actions were intentionally malicious."
The dog has been brought to the Brookhaven Animal Shelter.
If they'd left her in the car, then spent ten or so minutes in the PO before sending her brother out to check up on her; would you consider them responsible?
Our son swallowed a dime once but it passed on through his system. Yes, I had to actually "watch" for it and "retrieve" it. eewwww I kept that dime and will give it to him someday when he isn't still squeamish about it. LOL
"Stuff certainly does happen."
No, according to Bud, you should be thoroughly investigated. Most things are not accidental.
I remember when my daughter was small, I had heard about scarf accidents so I was very careful when she put on a scarf. This isn't the first time someone has been killed by a neck scarf sad to say. My mind fails me now, but it seems scarves getting caught in car doors, buses and stuff such as that have killed people.
If you want that, there are plenty of other web sites loaded with it.
You are over the top and out of line.
Well, evidently plenty of people on this thread agree with me.
Now, now, don't ruin the fun for the prigs among us.
"Now, now, don't ruin the fun for the prigs among us."
Methinks some people have been watching too many CSI reruns.
"No, it wasn't an accident, it was just made to look like that. It was Murder!!"
"My mind fails me now, but it seems scarves getting caught in car doors, buses and stuff such as that have killed people."
That happened in a Twilight Zone episode, but the guy bought a pair for scissors from a psychic who knew what you needed to buy the most.
Absolutely.

You really are into peer approval, aren't you.
Do you take a poll to find out what to wear in the morning?
He has! And Thanks! :)
Scarves and hood ties on small children have proved fatal before, it is a known (probably not as well known as it should be) hazard. Children have been injured and died from hanging scarves and hood ties on slides, and other playground equipment. I think it is possible the dog tugged on the scarf in a tug of war type game and tightened it to the point she died from it.
Anything around a child's neck is never a good idea, as adults it is hard for us to imagine all the scenerios that can happen to a child so I am not blaming the parents.
No, I'm into common sense.
But if you need to make stuff up to make yourself feel superior, go for it.
LOL,
It aint what you think Jimbo, go back and read his posts. He's got a bug up his butt and for no good reason.
Over the top and out of line? That's most of us here, isn't it?
Yee Haa
You're out of your ever loving mind. It was an accident, a tragic heartbreaking accident.
Most famous scarf death is probably Isadora Duncan.
My guess is the he/she/it does not.
