Canadian General Election, Live Thread (UPDATE: Conservatives Win!)
Elections Canada ^ | N/A

Posted on 01/23/2006 8:03:44 AM PST by GreenLanternCorps

If JimRob, etc. approve this is the Live Thread for the Canadian General Election, on January 23rd, 2005.

We have a while to go before the returns start coming in, but I thought the thread needed to get up and running.

Québec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan & Alberta results in 20 minutes. Look for modest gains in Ontario & Québec, combined with *huge* Librano losses in Québec to give Martin the boot.

I think that's a very Bloc-friendly riding. Quebec City and surroundings will be key.

8 CPC seats? Not bad. In 2004 they didn't win a single seat in Quebec. The most optimistic polls had them gaining five. This is good news.

Not much actually, except that I would be surprised if the Torie range is outside 115-130. I guessed 122 out of thin air last night. Make that 121 now, I guess.

OMG - that is HUGE. It was not expected to be close there.

Could be a harbinger for things to come in Quebec?

Okay--I'm really confused. Are you posting final results, or the running tab for lack of a better term?

Your aim was good, but you acquired the wrong target. ;) I'm focused on the election, CBC is reporting that in Quebec, it's 19 Lib / 11 Conservative / 3 NDP :)

The Tories need about a six seat pickup in Quebec to be on track for 120-130.

That signals something *huge* in Québec- CPC wasn't expected to be a contender in the rural areas there.
