Canadian General Election, Live Thread (UPDATE: Conservatives Win!)
Elections Canada ^ | N/A

Posted on 01/23/2006 8:03:44 AM PST by GreenLanternCorps

If JimRob, etc. approve this is the Live Thread for the Canadian General Election, on January 23rd, 2005.

We have a while to go before the returns start coming in, but I thought the thread needed to get up and running.

I predicted this on Free Dominion.

You can never underestimate the stupidty of Canadian voters in general, and east of Manitoba in particular.

I warned people in Canada to check the meaning of 'hubris'.

Great! Hopefully this trend continues throughout the globe.

Yeah, I can understand that, but as evidenced here tonight, it's not a foolproof system. Unless every Canadian has their phone lines shut off and their internet connection stopped, there's still access to results.

Do you have a link to that statistic about the Netherlands? I did a Google search and found one site called "jihad watch" which had some of "dhimmi" index, which I don't consider too reliable. The Netherlands itself reports that there are 1 million Muslims in that country, 5.8% of the population.

I would be shocked if 5.8% of the population were capable of producing 50+% of births, no matter how much the Dutch seem to have given up on procreating. Certainly if the Muslim community is having that many children, a good share of that 6% wouldn't even be old enough to have children themselves!

I remember hearing that a majority of kids born in Rotterdam were Muslim; perhaps that's what you meant.

Yep, the main event (905, 613 and 519 area code areas) in Ontario is still to come.

No matter if it's 25 or 50 years, I think Europe is in for a mess. Perhaps the Muslims will "peacefully" conquer Europe this time, unlike their atrocious military campaigns in the 8th century.

I submit that the Maritimes are a region the Liberals MUST carry if they are to have any hope of retaining power, but the region is not necessarily vital to the Conservatives, who show every sign of winning big in traditional Liberal strongholds like Quebec and Ontario. Don't read too much into early returns showing the Liberals winning some seats, that's what they're going to do, win *some* seats. But although it is probably an unlikely event, it would not surprise me too much if the NDP ended up being the official opposition instead of the Liberals. Say what you will about Jack Layton and the NDP, and Stephen Harper and the Conservatives, but the one thing they have in common is that they want to restore honest government in Ottawa and that is why you will not see the NDP (imho) cutting any deals with the head Liberalano, Paul Martin.

I concur with you two - heck I'm happy to get Avalon at this point. I figured the Maritimes to be the worst part of the night. I just hope I'm right.

Taking all of those won't give the Conservatives a majority in Atlantic Canada. They won't have it in Eastern Canada. When Ontario comes in, its entirely possible Ontario voters elect to return to the Liberal fold. No one has ever gone broke underestimating the attachment of the Ontario electorate to the Liberals.

Well, in the case of France, it's not that hard to figure out.

When you consider that Moslems are 10% of the population - and that they're younger, with a TFR of five or six children per woman versus one for native French.

I have a Drake SW8 that hubby got me when he got his 62" TV. I really enjoy it but there is a lot of static on that station tonight. I also have 2 smaller ones but I am having trouble with them. One keeps going off after about 30 seconds. Good luck on finding the radio. -

I'm a university kid here in Toronto who is planning to move to the US as soon as I graduate. I love the South, it's such a vibrant place compared to the rest of the world. The people tell it straight, which is the way I like it.

Actually, in truth, the Maritimes won't be the actual deciding factor!! You can NEVER depend on them. Well trained seals waiting with their mouths open. Same intelligence too.

Me too. Toronto will be going overwhelmingly Liberal, but the question remains how much more can the Liberals get?

If the Conservatives can make major inroads in the suburbs (not my current prediction, but still possible), we can still do very well.

Remember we have most of the Prairies locked up...that's 56 seats.

I think the US will be the last bastion of Christian culture in the world after Europe goes down. I think there will be millions of people like me who will flock there as the last refuge of Western Civ in the world.
