If JimRob, etc. approve this is the Live Thread for the Canadian General Election, on January 23rd, 2005.
We have a while to go before the returns start coming in, but I thought the thread needed to get up and running.
Creepy Graham...I went to see him give a little talk out west here at UBC a few months ago out of curiousity, when he entered the room he saw me holding my 1 year old daughter, he got all excited and said "all right, a future Liberal!" and I told him "not a chance...hands off!"
I'm in Layton's riding here in Toronto. When I voted today I took my passport (I don't have a driver's licence).
The election observer at my booth was wearing an Liberal tag, and did not look happy. He asked me if I had my passport so I could escape to Cuba in the morning! That gave me a good laugh!
So, if any of you Freepers have a shortwave radio, you might be able to listen to CFRB
CFRB is also 1010 on the AM dial and if the wind is blowing in the right direction can be heard all across the eastern US.
Soon to be the Liberal critic for National Defence. Unfortunately, he is safe and should be re-elected.
Ooooouuuu!
What a creep.
The polls are all predicting a Conservative win. Amazing. Hopefully relations with the US will improve.
Teeheeheehee!! I love it!!
I've been seeing the same from exit polls. But they don't mean nothing.
Not much going on with the major 'news' networks right now.
Each party has their own talking heads out to do battle with Mike Duffy. On the bright side, the Tories don't have to spin anything, as one does not need spin when things are going one's way.
While it's tempting to do so, I'm trying not to underestimate the desperation of the Liberals, Bloc and NDP (left, leftier, and commie respectivly.) You how dogs are when you try to take their social programs eh, uh bones away.
What I'm hoping the Canadian public learns from 12 years of Liberal rule is that every time you hear the word 'program', you have to ask yourself..."How much is this gonna cost me?"
WHY NO RESULTS ON CBC.ca UNTIL 10 P.M. EST?
By law, on election night, Canadian news organizations aren't allowed to publish results to any part of the country in which the polls are still open.
Because CBC.ca is available everywhere, we can't publish results until 10 p.m. EST (7:00 p.m. PST), when the polls close in British Columbia and the Yukon. It also means all live radio streaming for CBC Radio One and Two, normally available 24/7 on CBC.ca, will stop at 7 p.m. EST, when the polls close in Newfoundland and results start to come in, and won't resume until 10 p.m.
This is different than the last federal election. In June 2004, all Canadian media organizations including CBC.ca were legally allowed to publish results across the country as soon as they became available. That's because the B.C. Supreme Court, prior to that election, had struck down the results ban.
But in May 2005, the B.C. Court of Appeal reversed the lower court's decision and upheld the ban. A group of news companies, including the CBC, filed a motion earlier this month asking the Supreme Court of Canada to suspend the ban for this election, until an appeal of the reversal could be heard. The court rejected that motion, so the ban stands. The Supreme Court of Canada will probably rule on the appeal before the next federal election.
PATHETIC huh? NO, worse than that - DISGRACEFUL, DISGUSTING, DEGENERATE, DEBASING, embarassing!! Could it be any CLEARER that we DESPERATELY NEED change?
That's a heep Uriah.
You won't hear no anti-American trash talk from the Conservative Party.
We can be proud Canadians without being anti-American.
If you want to compare US parties to Canadian ones, here are the best comparisons (although they do overlap):
Republican ---> Conservative
Democrat ---> Liberal
Nader-independents ---> NDP
Green ---> Green
Libertarian ---> Libertarian
Constitution ---> Christian Heritage
First polls close in 1 hour in Newfoundland and Labrador!
1 1/2 hours until the Maritimes close, 3 1/2 hours from Quebec to Alberta and 4 hours in British Columbia.
Does he live on Yonge street? That would be about the type of people that would need to be in his riding to accept this abomination!!
I'll take any sign going our way. :)
YES YES YES!! THANK YOU JIM!!
Relations between our two countries WILL DEFINITELY improve!!
