We have a while to go before the returns start coming in, but I thought the thread needed to get up and running.

It has taken me a while to understand sarcasm here on FR.

Simply put; my take on "Ashamed Canadian" is that he is a very patriotic Canadian who is ashamed of the Liberal government in Ottawa!

The tagline: "Please Invade Us Now" again is sarcasm.

I'm a proud Canadian too and also love living here in the US on the beautiful Carolina shores, but as another Canadian expatriate once said "I didn't leave Canada, Canada left me".

A riding is the Canadian equivalent of a Congressional District. We use the Westminster system where the executive is chosen by the lower house rather than direct election, so the name of the game is to win the largest number of seats in Parliament.

Apparently, they hand in the voter's card, their name is found on the list, and they are handed a ballot.

You can have all the rules in the world, but if they are not enforced,........

Keep in mind the voter cards are addressed to Name of Voter, or current occupant. What is Elections Canada? A mail order firm?

The free vote is in the Conservative Party's platform. It was started by Preston Manning who started the original Reform Party. It stays that way today. The Liberals OTOH, you don't DARE to defy the Party Line or your O U T!! To the back benches you go.

Sorry, I guess I'm just hypersensitive after seeing what's happening with the Tories in GB. After spending a few weeks in Canada and watching what the media up there is like, I'm surprised that ANY Canadians DON'T hate us.
