If JimRob, etc. approve this is the Live Thread for the Canadian General Election, on January 23rd, 2005.
We have a while to go before the returns start coming in, but I thought the thread needed to get up and running.
the B.C. Liberal Party is really a coalition party of former Social Creditors and REformers and Conservatives and some liberals sprinkled in. One of the questions they were asked over and over when they ran is: Do you support the Federal Liberal Platform? Their answer was a resounding NO!! The NDP however, do have a stronghold in the highly populated Asian and other immigrant area of Vancouver. Why? They probably let them in the country. Plus, coming from China, I guess they look good.
Tony Clement (CPC) wins Parry Sound--Muskoka by a whopping 21 votes.
No Conservatives elected from metro Montreal, Toronto, or Vancouver. Interesting.
There WILL be a recount.
There are comments on Free Dominion that there may be an issue with MArtin conceeding. Nothing official yet ... just banter with CTV being mentioned.
Could someone rank these parties from right to left? liberal, bloc quebecois, ndp
Probably the conservatives.
thanks for posting those returns. Go conservatives!
If the same Liberals ever got back in, I would place it at a very distinct possibility. There is a fast and strong growing separation movement in the West. It will only take the right circumstance.
It used to be that by 8pm, we in the prairies, would know which party would lead the government, before our votes had even been counted. This has finally changed - thank God! Western Canada (especially Alberta) will now have a major say in this government policy because it was our Reform Party merging with the Conservative Party that formed the winning CPC.
Apparently Paul Martin's "concession" speech will consist of, "NONONONONONO I DON'T WANNA GO AND YOU CAN'T MAKE MEEEEE!"
Idiot on CBC: "If Harper won 2 years ago, we'd be at war right now."
I'll try to put together another update around 11:45.
CBC has some hip hop looney saying this election was just to scare the libs.
Damage control is in overdrive.
I hope heads roll at the CBC

Like Al Gore??? Sore Loserman redux? This could get interesting.. That would be the deathnell of his political career.
I hope so frankjr. I'm just so happy that Stephen Harper may now be called Mr. Prime Minister. And he looks it and deserves it.!!
I don't believe the Libs and NDP will have enough seats together to form a majority.
That is ridiculous. It sounded to me like they were talking about some sort of constitutional crisis that doesn't exist. The Conservatives have a clear plurality of seats, and it is the Governor-General, not the PM, that forms a government.
