We have a while to go before the returns start coming in, but I thought the thread needed to get up and running.

He's a conservative from Port-Neuf, so yes - he'll vote with the Tories. They didn't get a majority this time for the reason that Quebec isn't ready to embrace them yet wholeheartedly but they made a breakthrough in French Canada and if they play their cards right, they can build on it.

The msnbc.com site has this on the front page:
TILTING RIGHT: Canada's Conservatives, led by Stephen Harper, headed to victory.
CNN.com isn't admitting defeat for its liberal friends just yet...

For my part, I could care less if CNN mentions it at all.

Yes it is. And you know the CPC with the Bloc can block any non confidence motion by the Fiberals and the NDP. Martin is NOT in a good situation. The BLOC HATE the Liberals and they are NOT going to give them another chance at an election in 18 months. They will need to suffer out the 5 years. By that time, Martin might move on.

That 10 seats means that Harper has the basis for pulling a Dief- spend a couple of years in minority then a landslide.

Register? Who has to register? Just show up with a brand new library card with a local address on it. I did.

It's not as big a win as some projected but it is a big win nonetheless.

Thanks ... I just wish Atlantic Canada would have pitched in more.
Hey congratulations no matter what, the Tories are now in a position to begin repairing the LIEberal damage done to Canada over the past 12+ years, and Atlantic Canada can't be blamed for being so addicted to the Liberal crackpipe that they just can't put it down. It's like the late Richard Pryor and his talking crackpipe, he just couldn't help but listen to it, and obey it.
A few years of Conservative rehabilitation and perhaps there will be hope for the Maritimes.
All in all, I would say a damn good night for Canada.

I think Martin is toast now. There will probably be a leadership review and he'll be out on his ear. There's no reason to keep him around.

If that's what Elections Canada's website says, I guess so.

I have a question about how this sort of works. Even though the COngress has got alot more nationalized alot still has to do with the local guy running. His personality, local issues, etc that often or doesnt have to do with alot with the President or the party agenda. There talking about how the polls were showing a possible conservative majority, Could it be like heae that often people think Republican nationally but might just like the local dem better for some odd reason. In other words people wnated to conservatives to control but for whatever reason they thought their "liberal" represenatives wasnt so bad. I guess do Canadians vote for the party more or do they more lean to vote fort he man or woman as an individual in these ridings
To: HunterAmor
I knew the NDP would gain - why do you think B.C. was Martin's LAST stop. He was playing to the NDP. Trying to scare the union worker and doing "anything" to get folks to not support the CPC. He's dirty, and Layto of the NDP has NO credibility. He has flip flopped too many times.

Yes, it's been a very good night overall. On a positive note, we did pick up 2 seats on the East Coast. Thanks for the congrats.
