Wecht indicted on 84 counts
By The Tribune-Review Friday, January 20, 2006
A federal grand jury this morning indicted Allegheny County Medical Examiner Dr. Cyril H. Wecht on 84 counts. The grand jury also indicted two other people, former coroner's histologist George Hollis and recently retired chief pathologist Leon Rozin.
The 22-member grand jury has been investigating Wecht for two years, focusing on whether he used county employees and resources to perform work for his private pathology business. The grand jury, which concluded its work today, also was investigating whether public employees chauffered Wecht and his relatives to Pittsburgh International Airport for personal trips and to and from other events.

Boy, you definitely gotta be a native. I've never been anywhere else where "ya jagoff" would even be understood.
Cyril went to high school with and was a friend of my late father. He is a genuinely intelligent and basically decent guy, but with his intelligence came a VERY healthy ego that took him a little too far. As a county official, much like the last two sheriffs, Coon and DeFazio and the former Commissioners Dunn, Cranmer and Foerster, and several judges that I have first hand knowledge about, I have no doubt that he did use county facilities and staff for his own purposes. Too bad, he is, at the bottom of it all, quite capable.
Cyri'l's daughter, OTOH, came out normal. She is my wife's OB/GYN. I always kid her that it must have been tough around that dinner table, with all the docs and lawyers (and egos).
orginally from there. there are a few Picksburghers who still speak the lingo, on FR : )
Nowhere in the piece does it mention Wecht's multiple runs for office as a Democrat...
I have to agree with you about David, though he has less to be arrogant about than his father.
Listen to them: they both take RASPY, DEEP, HURRIED breaths between their words.
Which makes it all the more annoying.

This boy could have been a planted shill all these years.
Something about this guy always seemed crooked whenever I saw him on TV.
I am glad to hear it.
This guy had the Ramseys tried and convicted with no evidence. He will say anything if the price is right.
I live in Allegheny County and the guy is a world class jerk and money grubbing political hack and has been for over 30 years. He was tied to the old Democrat machine which covered his crooked ass many times. His only strong point is self-promotion with the idiots in the mainstream media to go on the tube and pontificate about cases he knew nothing about. He was also an "expert witness" and would testify for which ever side paid the most.
It used to be said the most dangerous spot in Pittsburgh was between Cyrel and a TV camera. I imagine he'll shy away from the today for the first time in his life.
This is long overdue and well deserved.
Cryl is a renowned expert in forensic pathology as well as a great scientist (IMHO).
No he isn't. He's a conspiracy nutter who worked with Oliver Stone on 'JFK', among others Leftists. Some years ago when the movie came out, I saw Wecht on TV spouting stuff I knew was factually wrong. I've never trusted him again.
He will say anything for money.
He was laughed at by everyone. Evidently he's for sale and tht is not a good thing for justice.
"...world class jerk and money grubbing political hack and has been for over 30 years..."
Yep ! He got off in the early 80s by having to pay around $200k, but looks like the good doctor/lawyer may end up at a Club Fed this time around.
Just imagine what he would have cooked up had he been elected as Allegheny County's first Chief Executive instead of Roddey back in '99! Roddey was not great, but at least he is honest.
You think Cyril would have learned his lessons 25 years ago - but some people never change.
Example: the Ramseys were tried and convicted in the eyes of many citizens by such unprofessional legal and forensics "experts." Shame on them!
What a misuse of college law school, as well as science department training.
