Two al-Qaida militants reported missing and suspected killed in Friday's U.S. missile attack in Pakistan are key regional commanders along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Afghan and Pakistani analysts said.

Marwan As-Suri, believed to be in his 30s, is a Syrian who recently had been appointed to head al-Qaida operations in part of the Pakistani areas bordering Kunar, the Afghan said.

According to the Afghan source, another important al-Qaida invitee to the dinner was Abdul Hadi Al-Iraqi, who reportedly has served as a liaison between al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden and the al-Qaida-backed guerrilla leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

Good post. Some new names now. I'm gonna have to start writing these down! :-D I'd say the number of killed terrorists is closer to 8 than 4 (both of which have been appearing in reporting).

Abu Ubaidah, in his mid-40s, is deputy commander of al-Qaida forces in Kunar

If they got this bastard, long overdue payback for some of America's finest.

I thought it was Zawahiri in Pakistan and Zarqawi in Iraq and it wasn't the same man. Can someone clarify this?

You're correct, although I personally do not view their locations as quite that stable. :-)

You're right about their positions being more fluid. The names are so similar it is easy to get them confused.

One of those killed was the media operations guy...that may explain the silence from the Pakistani AQ branch on this strike.

Zawahiri is an Egyptian and is their "No. 2" after Osammy Boy. He's was the principal (or perhaps they were hoping bin Laden was in attendance) target of the attack on the Pakistani Afghan border village get together. Zarqawi is the Jordanian running things in Iraq. It can be a bit confusing as they are both listed on the same last page in the Al Qaida phone directory.

Is that Mustafa Osman? I don't have a password for the NYT [New York Treason] and I don't care to get one.

Even if AZ survives (likely) I think it will be a while before they will put out anything much. They have a major security problem from their viewpoint, and until/unless they sweep things clean they will not feel comfortable putting anything out.

Should only be a minor interruption for AQ though. I hear some of the guys from the NYT are looking for jobs.

"I've looked all over, with my air Rover,
Where I've overlooked before
One arm is missing, the other is gone,
One leg is sitting in Pakistan's back lawn...
Oh no, there's no need explaining,
The leg remaining,
It's covered with blood and gore,
Oh, I'm looking over with my air rover,
Spots that I've overlooked before..."

LOLOLOL!!!!
