Guitarist Jimmy Page of the band Led Zeppelin has been voted the top guitar soloist of all time for the song Stairway to heaven.

The third place was occupied by the dual guitar solo by Allen Collins and Gary Rossington on Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird.
The top 10 guitar solos are:
1. Stairway to heaven - Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin)
2. Eruption - Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen)
3. Freebird - Allen Collins and Gary Rossington (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
4. Comfortably numb - David Gilmour (Pink Floyd)

It is fun sharing music and there is so much out there one person can't possibly know all of it that is good. I know what I know but there is more that I don't know than I do.
John Cipollina
Quicksilver Messenger Service, Happy Trails. Most of the LP.
Yup. Any song from Johnny Winter "Live And"
The cat on the Strat. The flip side of genius is Pete Townshend on a Gibson SG, "Live at Leeds."
I had the good fortune to meet him in a restaurant in NYC about 20 years ago. Dining at a fancy 3-star eatery, he was dressed the same as at any Doobie Brothers concert. Nice guy, too.
There is much more that has not been mentioned than has been mentioned. You've got some good ones there.
Do you think we should include The Ventures?Perfidia,Walk Don't Run and Hawaii Five-O Theme really rock.
I actually like the percussion/drums on stairway better than the guitar solo.
"Quicksilver" by Quicksilver Messenger Service is my no. 2 all time favorite album. Other good QSM songs are "Just for Love" Pt. 1 and Pt. 2. Cobra. Mona. Did you ever check out www.dinovalenti.com ? Great web site for Quicksilver fans.
Heck, yeah, and I love the old song "Pipeline" too.
It is quite a bit to your credit that you even got accepted. I scored near 250 in the NYS Regents test, so I got accepted at a couple really good schools.
But I never cared for the toil and grind of standard academia. Yes, I understand why there's good reason not to spend your lifetime trying to trisect an angle. But the college environment IMHO discourage fringe ideas.
Even though the biggest breakthroughs in history have always come from the fringe elements.
I saw Roy B. five times live and your recording has better playing on it than when I saw him. Talk about a master of the guitar, Roy was THE MAN!
One band that definitely ROCKS. I remember when Mariot died. It was a in a fire I believe. It had to be one of the best pure rock shows I've ever seen. 1972
Pull out that Eric Burdon I sent you and listen to "Its All Over Now, Baby Blue" and tell me what you think.
There was a huge live outdoor show in WVA about that year headlining Humble Pie. I missed it but I knew a lot of people who went. Big show with a lot of big names. I think it was a two day show. Everyone said the "Pie" stole the show.
Thanks, Scott! Sounds great!
Vai has incredible feel, unbeatable technique. I'm simply not a fan of his tone......that's all. That's a matter of taste. I could play the rest of my natural life and not approach his skill level, but give me a Gary Moore or Frank Marino any day.
Did you know that Tony Kaye, the original Yes keyboardist, was a longtime FReeper??
