I thought I was the only one left in the US that still liked Trower. Afraid not...just had 'Victims of the Fury' CD playing in the car a couple of weeks ago.

Agreed, Led Zep had an incredible rhythm section.

There are some good tunes there- but I disagree with that list. I only see a couple of my faves there.

It's funny to see people who don't even play guitar have an elitist attitude towards the greatest guitar solo.
with that being said (13 years under the belt) .. for dificulty.. it goes to van halen easily(granted i cant stand him).. but for best sounding, David Gilmour has to take the cake on every song he's ever written... don't be fooled, roger waters cannot even compare to David.... I would defenately remove metallica off the list and put in somebody worthy of the title (stevie ray) or another hendrix song.

Bodhisattva -- Jeff "Skunk" Baxter (Steely Dan)
The Gates of Delirium -- Steve Howe (Yes)
Egyptian Danza -- Al Di Meola

""Page's solos were choppy and not great he did create some of the greatest riffs in Rock""
Without a doubt. The layered guitar riff laden thunder driven by John P Jone's bass lines is absolutely inmpossible to beat. Consider that, in my opinion there would be no heavy metal (heart, great white, etc., etc., etc.,) without page. Based on guitarists who've inspired and been copied, he stands alone. I suggest a listen to Achilles Last Stand for those in doubt.

"The Core" should be the entry from Eric Clapton...and how come no Leslie West on the list? A giant was he.

1. Stairway to heaven - Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) Most guitarists think of Pagey as a Les Paul man and are surprised to learn that this solo was recorded on a Fender Telecaster.

I know several pro guitarists and they're always raving about the guy in UFO...I can't say I've ever heard him.
I like Roy Buchanan, though.

True. Yet I think one consenus here is that "contactmusic.com" has lost major credibility by publishing a list of top guitar solos without SRV.

Some producer or other said that, I remember reading it in the liner notes somewhere. I've only seen him live once, but it was great. William Powell is amazing, I've been learning a couple of the simpler tunes, with my ultimate goal being that one. I might get to it sometime around my 60th birthday or so...

My five favorite concerts, in order:
1. Zappa at Pauley Pavillion, Westwood--'Just Another Band From L.A.' recorded live (1974);
2. B.B. King in Redondo Beach (1999)
3. David Allen Coe at the Chrystal Palace, Bakersfield, CA (2002)
4. Ray Charles at Redondo Beach Theatre (2000)
5. Willie Nelson at the Arlington Theatre, Santa Barbara (1976)

My vote is Clapton, "Crossroads." I never did think Jimi Hendrix put together that "one" solo that really just displayed all of his incredible talent.
