52% of Americans: Impeach Bush on wiretaps (Zogby)
WorldNetDaily ^ | 16 January 2006

Posted on 01/15/2006 9:42:01 PM PST by Aussie Dasher

A new Zogby poll indicates a majority of Americans want Congress to consider impeaching President Bush if he wiretapped American citizens without a judge's approval.

Respondents were asked if they agreed or disagreed with the following statement:

"If President Bush wiretapped American citizens without the approval of a judge, do you agree or disagree that Congress should consider holding him accountable through impeachment."

The poll found that 52 percent agreed, 43 percent disagreed and 6 percent said they didn't know or declined to answer.

"The American people are not buying Bush's outrageous claim that he has the power to wiretap American citizens without a warrant," said Bob Fertik, co-founder of the left-leaning group AfterDowningStreet.org which commissioned the survey. "Americans believe terrorism can be fought without turning our own government into Big Brother."

The poll interviewed 1,216 adults in the U.S. from Jan 9-12, and has a 2.9 percent margin of error.

As one might expect, the respondents' political affiliation played a role in their answer, as 66 percent of Democrats favored impeachment, as did 59 percent of Independents, but only 23 percent of Republicans.

One month ago, one-third of Americans polled by Rasmuseen Reports said they believe Bush should be impeached.

No kidding...but I have made a point of noting how the news people and the dems refer to this scandal...and almost every single time...even on Fox..

it is referred to as the "NSA spying on Americans" scandal..

What is funny is...Schmucky was asked why he had to be so hard on the nominee for the SCOTUS...and he said, "that is our job, we have to ask these questions"...

And, President Bush said, "it is my job...to protect this country, and if an al-queda or other terrorist group is calling Americans, then I should know that"...

A job is a job...ya gotta do, what ya gotta do, right Schmucky???

Note how the question in the poll does not say anything about 'Al Qaeda' or 'terrorism'...

Absolutely biased...ridiculous.

What? He's not doing it as a selfless public service?

The way the journalists tell it, they all sacrifice lucrative high-paying jobs so they can serve the truth -- at a great sacrifice of the millions they'd be making in the NBA dunking on Shaq.

James is his brother. He's the head of the Arab American Institute. That says it all.

IMO, this is an orchestrated part of the Gore offensive.

Sorry, of topic, but.. Hey Rush. I don't give a crap about the BHCDC. You're supported by your listeners and you're expected to do your job. There are important events of the day. Get back to work or retire.

Fox had a poll today saying 58% - approved of Bush's wiretapping.

It's the usual 10% overplay by the dems. They're really desperate and Zogby is only too happy to comply.

And .. there is no other poll showing 50% impeachment - it's a fairy tale - the dems alternative universe.

Translation: We're desperate .. we couldn't get Alito .. so we have to do something to get rid of Bush.

What the dems don't see is the consequences of that act - Cheney - he should be their worst nightmare. But since the dems never look ahead to see the result of their actions - they haven't even thought about how they would deal with Cheney as President .. and Thomas said she would kill herself. I can't help but wonder if that's how the rest of them would feel .. but if we think they're loopy or kooky now .. we ain't seen nothin' yet!!

After Zogby extreme bias and horrible polling results during the 2002 and 2004 elections, any person who takes him seriously anymore has the political IQ of a chicken.

Yes and 80% of the independents come from the dark blue counties, i.e. they are typical democrats who lie by calling themselves independents.

Zogby hasn't just jumped the shark, the shark has jumped him.

This is just more proof that the leftist media should be shutdown for the good of the citizens of the U.S. and the U.S. country's well being as a whole.

I think they believe 1300 is needed for the +/- 3%.

That may be; it's been over a year since I studied political statistics. What the class really taught me was how easy it is to lie with statistics.

Yep.

Zogby Bashes Iraq Invasion (in cornell lecture)

Zogby severely condemned U.S. policy, claiming it is undoing any goodwill Arabs hold towards the US. He called attempts to reach out to the Muslim world “ham-handed.”

“We are selling our values like Uncle Ben’s Rice — Arabs are so easy to read, but we’re not communicating at all … Good police work will find the terrorists; you breed more terror by shutting off people,” he said.

Zogby claimed that Arabs held negative opinions of Bush due to his bonding with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, the intense lead-up to war, and the Abu Ghraib scandal.

“We have no idea how devastating [the Abu Ghraib scandal] was. To many Arabs, we train our troops on how best to humiliate them,” he said.

Zogby held yet more criticism for the Bush administration during a question period following his lecture, painting a dark picture for postwar Iraq, and saying that the United States’ exit strategy must be to leave immediately.

He also predicted a “rendering apart” of the Republican base as the Christian right battled against other conservative intellectuals.

“What darkens things is the Christian right. They’re a contradiction to what the conservative ideology has always been about; they’re trying to impose their value system on everybody else and utilize the government to do so. They’re very similar to Wahhabism is this way,” he said, speaking of the fundamentalist Islamic movement.

Zogby also claimed that the word “liberal” has become dirty and “bankrupt of new ideas.”

Zogby was pessimistic of the future situation in the Middle East, saying that the next president would be likely to continue to hold a presence in the Middle East.

“We’ve managed to piss off the entire rest of the world,” he said. Zogby’s speech was well-received among students.

He's so anti Bush, he can't see straight. His polls are garbage.

True, all true and don't forget that he and his brother are ARABS, anti-Isreal, pro-Palestinian fanatics, and his polls haven't been correct or even near true in a very long time.

I don't see how this goes anywhere. It seems Bush briefed not only Congress but the FISA court itself. If this warrantd serious concern they would have blown a whistle not the NYT.

I see that algore, who is definately out of the loop on this, is making a "major speech" on abuse of executive power. I remember that people here were furious when he ignored a Congressional strategy to retard Iran's nuclear program. The law provided that Russia would get no foreign aid if it kept helping Iran. Gore did it anyway, and many called him a traitor. Tomorrow would be a good time to remind him of his abuse of executive power, especially since the President of Iran has now threatened an oil embargo.

Back before there were professional polling enterprises that did this for a lucrative living, research organizations that didn't do it as a profession exclusively -- like universities might have conducted an occasional scientific poll but now it's being so misused and abused as to be totally worthless.

The questions are biased; the population sample is biased; conducted by a biased individual; reported to a biased media, primarily for financial considerations, etc. How many red flags do we need to have before we come to the conclusion that the only reason these polls exist is to manipulate opinion and not measure it?

Agreed. I wouldn't believe one of his polls if he said the sky was blue. I'd have to look for myself.

His brother, James,

* Founder and director of numerous Muslim rights groups
* President of the Arab American Institute
* Has referred to Israelis as "Nazis," and calls Israel's actions against the PLO "a Holocaust"

James Zogby has had a long career as an Arab advocate and activist. He is the founder and president of the Washington, D.C.-based Arab American Institute (AAI), an organization that strives to involve members of the Arab community in political affairs via education programs and

voter-registration drives. Zogby's goal is to be the first Arab positioned at the forefront of the U.S. political arena, and to fill the political landscape with leaders who share his Arab-centric vision. He has repeatedly denounced Israelis and Jewish-Americans, while voicing support for a string of violent terrorist groups in the Middle East and elsewhere.

Why anyone would believe a zogby poll is beyond me.

Zogby is the most honest and honorable person most journalists have ever personally met or been associated with.
