FOR THE second year in a row...the population of Massachusetts has shrunk.
It was one of only three states to end the year with fewer people than it had at the start -- New York and Rhode Island were the others -- and the only one to do so for the second year running.

No kidding, but some fools on this board forget the fact that NY gave GWB almost 2 million votes where many many red states don't even have 2 million people.
The reddest counties in NH are the ones closest to the Mass. border. Most tax migrants are Republicans. In fact, I'll bet that the Mass. emmigrants are disproportionately (for Mass.) Republicans.
I moved from Townsend a year and a half ago. It wasn't as corrupted as some MAss communities.
As an conservative ex-pat now living in a RED south New Hampshire county, I feel the need to defend my ex-state on this small point: Ted Kennedy did not have a valid Mass driver's licience when he killed Mary Jo. It was 3 months expired. (In Massachusetts, laws only apply to the unconnected, yet everybody pays the bill.)
Actually, I've found Townsend to be very friendly and conservative, overall. During the Presidential election last year, there were WAY more Bush/Cheney yard signs than Kerry/Edwards and the activity around City Hall the morning of the election was significantly Republican. Actually, I think Townsend voted in larger numbers for Bush. And another interesting bit of information. I found many of my neighbors names on the pro marriage amendment petition, having read the names on the website meant to "expose" us. Where did you move to? We're going to be moving later this year, even though we really like Townsend.
Well that may be so...but traffic still sucks around here.
I heard an interesting thing tonight on Shep Smith on FOX.... about the recycling police in Seattle. A woman who said she is a liberal says her concern is too many people think it's okay if they go through the trash and if there is more than 10% recycleables in there they are ticketed.... her quote was that the people are so far leaning to the left they won't realize they are in danger of giving up civil rights to these people until it's too late...
McCain all but ran unopposed last time -- had a candidate who was very weak against him.... and be careful what you wish for, did you see the report on Arcata, Ca and what has happened since they elected a 'green party' majority?
Which company is pressuring employees to 'give to panhandlers'? Is your friend a civil servant?
"Which company is pressuring employees to 'give to panhandlers'? Is your friend a civil servant?"
It was peer pressure - all the techies in that circle were very pan handler donation aware.
